The Illusion Of Individuality - Video Slam

Pure Consciousness is only One
Through many forms, It plays
Like Sun’s inherent Unity
Within Its trillion rays

So many rivers grace the Earth
And in one sea they flow
Yet water is the common core
Of vapour, rain or snow

When gazing at a golden ring
Do we just see its form ?
It soon will fade, when melted down
To gold it will transform

A multitude of flames we see
When gazing at a fire
Although, essential Unity
Its vision should inspire

So often do we get seduced
By charms of form and name
While many pots of clay are formed
Their essence is the same

A wave may dream of specialness
Like many others do
Believing to be separate
Dividing “me” and “you”

Yet underneath the surface lies
The truth of Unity
Within the depth of Consciousness
Lies no duality

The wave, the water and the sea
Inherently the same
Have only played their humble role
In God’s delicious Game

The name of this poem also lured me here, 'Individuality' is one of my favorite poets...if all the world could see and accept that we should exist with knowing that we share so much of that same humanness and all the traits that make us weak or strong when faced with trials in life.

    Wisdom personified

I love the simple wisdom in your words. We are one and yet we are individuals with a unique way of expressing our thoughts and feelings.

"I am thee, and thee are me. We are one. We are at onement for I am of that "I am" that we are."

    Excellent!

Maa, you truly are a poetess with grace and style! This is one of my favs by far as you have once again captured something in mere poetic words all that is so easily unseen! Unity in spirit as we are all created equal in the eyes of the beholder! With just enough difference to give us individuality! I am dazzled once more by your talent! You should do very well in this contest for all of your entries so far are outstanding!
    I wish you the best!

I like this poem. It is surprising as it is a bit too spiritual for me, but because it doesn't come acoss as preachy it doesn't bother me. I just really appreciate the imagery and philosophy within the piece.

    Excellent!

A glorious vision and so succinctly stated. Did you know that in essence our body's make up is the same as the planet? and by that I mean, a certain percentage water, a certain percentage iron, a certain percentage copper etc. ? I have read and been told that the body mirrors it precisely. The truth seems to be so very obvious, I mean as obvious as a neon sign, but so few refuse to see it because it transgresses against the ingrained and false taboo of
blasphemy. I think that very dictate has done more to seperate people from thier inherent Divinity in the last few millenia than anything. "Thou shalt not take the Lord's Name in vain" or to take it upon oneself. Instead directed to accept the state of original sin and forever prostrate oneself in lowly humility. But that is like God sitting on his hands. We MUST take his name unto ourselves or he has no limbs to move things with, nor a tongue to speak truths with. An excellent and thought provoking poem as usual my dear one!

      thank you

thank you so much, dearest diana, for sharing your wisdom and vast knowledge with me. I always appreciate it to listen to you and to open myself to a completely revolutionary way of thinking you are offering here ... although myself, I am more attracted to the path of devotion, the path of knowledge is like the other wing of this bird of enlightenment ...
a house has to be built with both the bricks of knowledge, held together by the mortar of love and devotion.
I always smile when you tell me how you think of humility, yet life sends me many lessons to teach me humility, and I welcome those teachings with joy.
when I prostrate in front of the Divine, my ego prostrates before my own Higher Self, surrendering to It.

      much love, sweet one,

this is really beautiful. we are truly all one, and not seperate as popular belief tends to have us believe. our souls are unique but united and we would be nothing without each other and everything else in this vast universe. i loved the water flowing into one sea...such a great metaphor there.

    Chef-d'oeuvre

I will use no grand words - but just say that this just has to be the winner.
YOu have here such a perfect blend of meaning and poetical form. The essense of the poem kind of reminded me of one proverb (chinese I guess) "A golden lion. If you look at the gold, you won't see the lion, but if you look at the lion - you won't see the gold"... Now go figure, what that means *puzzled*
Having had the fortune of coming across the treasure chest of your poetry I feel myself a lucky flibustier - thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Taking off my hat becomes a cliche - I will have to come up with something new. But not today - I have no brains left today!

      thank you

thank you, dear jan, for yet another wonderful comment from your heart ... don't worry about your brain, when brain retires, heart takes over ...
as for the proverb, it reminds me of one in the Bible, which reminds us that "we cannot serve two masters" ... meaning that either we choose God Who is our everlasting, changeless, immortal Essence, or the material world, which obeys the law of impermanence ...
it is also said that a jeweler only sees the Gold within every golden object, yet the normal person dwells on their forms - symbolic for seeing the Divine in every person, every thing that exists, instead of dwelling on the illusion of separation ...

I love it when you take off your hat ...
each time you say it, I perceive it as if I haven't heard it before ... therefore it always makes me smile ...
by the way, I don't have any brains neither - haven't you realized this yet ?

          heart

well, I actually wanted to say that I might have some brain, but rarely use it ... I'm not a thinking person, more of one who watches the thoughts pass ... sometimes I catch them like butterflies and write them down ... and immediately after, I forget them ...
by the way, if you'd like to use the "heart"-emoticon, you ought to type star love star ...

    Smiles

By the end of childhood, we are convinced that we are alone, and it is all our fault.

Albert Einstein is reputed to have said, "Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."

Your poem explains beautifully what we need to know to live happily and compassionately, whatever our circumstances. No one is more important, everyone is essential. Nice work with technique, except it's in stanza 1 does not need an apostrophe to form the possessive.

      thank you

indeed, the apostrophe escaped from typo-landia in order to pay me a visit today ... I sent it right back to where it came from. thank you for noticing ...
I still have to write all those poems in order to teach myself and to learn how to integrate all this into my daily life.

this said, I am hungry now ...

Your title is perfect for this work of art you've created, one I will be bookmarking for sure!

I like to think we are all alike enough to empathize with each other, with just enough differences to make us each interesting.

This is beautifully worded, has lovely rhyme, and the flow is perfect. Outstanding!

    Best wishes,
    ~J.
