[A steam whistle blowing]

A steam whistle blowing
showing pressure
is such an overused
metaphor
its truth runs
spills over
like the
steam
like the
tears
that fall from the
eyes
that cannot contain
such blowing pressure
there's the
metaphor
it creeps
like the danger
of failure
the knowing
that something can just
fall
away
at
the
drop
of
a
hat
but when it falls
it builds
so much
the incredible
silence
...
it screams
shattering
the protection
the wall built
to hide from
insurmountable
doom
why must this
stay
what allows such
unnecessary
worry to eat away
the conscience
the conscious
transcending
hyperbole
it sticks
it stays
the glue of the end
it comes
is it coming
what is it
what is known
is it truth
or do these
metaphors
keep the conscious worrying?

Author notes

Wrote this in one of my classes today.
I love stream of consciousness writing.

Er.. say whatever you damn well please. I prefer constructive criticism, thanks. :)

    You're a regular old Faulkner, aren't you?

The stream of consciousness reminded me of The Revievers and Yoknopatawapha County.

But to get back to the poem. I really enjoyed reading this Amanda. It had alot of feeling ibn it, and also this philosophical abstract quality. Keep up the good work.

Yoke-nah-pah-tah-wah-faw. I always have such a hard time pronouncing that.

I'm excited-- my college offers a course that's strictly Faulkner. [P.S. -- I've decided to stay at UMass Boston, haha.]

I'm glad you like it, love.

P.S. -- I'll be back in Michigan in 25 days!

        What?!

        You decided to stay, huh?
What pompted the change of plans?

I can't wait until you come to Michigan, we have to hang out!

It's very cost-efficient and I'm getting a really good education. It's just making friends that's difficult.

          Sure thing, love.
