love
my parent’s native language
spoken fluently
until they passed away
the few words I picked up
were not nearly enough
At eight I accused them
of speaking an alien dialect
at twelve I was convinced
from whispers
behind closed doors
I wasn’t meant to hear
but I did
at each of their wakes
it was more obvious
from acquaintance to best friend
divulging the truth
they were angels
sent from above
then it dawned on me
whether good times or bad
in sickness and in health
though it felt we were rich
but much closer to poor
they always managed to bring
their Heaven to Earth
whoever sent them was wise indeed
our planet Earth a better place
for having them here

Inspiring read!
I have to admit, I was fascinated by the title of your poem, as you had not listed a category, but was very pleasantly surprised, on reading this fine tribute to your parents. The free-verse style, suits the content of the poem and I found the whole work very moving, especially the ending. The humour in the second verse also makes it very endearing to the reader, as many people will have similar memories as children.

OH MY!! I love this! Wow! okay, line 1, love, that is the language your parents spoke, it took me a couple more lines to realize that and loved how you worded that, it was perfect. Yes, those in love do have their own language. lines 9-13 were so cute, since that is the age we really get curious on this mysterious closeness our parents have, that one part that seems to exclude us. Line 25, 26 was wonderful, bringing their heaven to earth, wow. lines 27,28,29 were so sweet and tender. This is an amazing tribute to what must have been amazing parents, since they obviously have an amazing child. Wonderful job on this one.

Coooool!
Did you take pictures? LOL J/K. Hey this is inspirational and good writing. It is good to know that after so much you still love and adore your parents. Most people just get annoyed by them when they grow up. Great write.

Excellent!
This is a wonderful dedication to your loving parents. I love the way you have placed a witty little twist to it. Who knows where we come from really. I suspect we are all angels in training. Now we have to figure out what an angel really is. Great Write! ~PeacE~GarY~ -
