"Dear," he called to my feathered shroud,
"Coffee's on," and he handed me any mug he grabbed.
Over morning coffee, we solved the world’s problems;
Bitter dawns were sweetened by the comfort of fine foam.
Strength was drawn, sip by sip, lip to curve of conversation.
Rich, sweet, after dinner bean-curl of steam encouraged us.
Carafes kept the brew steaming.
It cooled and over ice we parted, not of our grinding.
"Dear, because of your dying, even the cup has become dear."

Tingling!
Most certainly worthy of that Silver!
This is so artfully written with wonderful content, choice of words & imagery.
Tender & evocative are words that come to mind. The last line in a clincher!

LOVELY POEM !!!!!
I would like to congratulate you on being a winner in the contest. Your poem was wonderful and deserved to be with the winners. Thanks for sharing, it was a pleasure to read!! Take care, Sandy -
This was one of the ones I had no idea whose it was! I hadn't received a system message that you'd entered this contest, as I did with some (random?) and you didn't sign your name (thank you) and I didn't see any comment to give it away... all this to say I am very pleased and surprised to now see that it is yours, Shewolf, though not surprising when I really think about it. I always love your poems! I also thought this morning as I was re-reading this, about how the feathered shroud reminded me of Freya's. (from the Eddas of Nordic mythology) Well done, indeed. Humorous, serious, everything.

Brilliant...& tasty, too...
"Strength was drawn, sip by sip, lip to curve of conversation." Sighhh...Ahhh, yes, the finest brew of all; one of warmth, solace, silence & conversation alike...Beautifully penned, my Sister...& I understand the dearness of the cup...Good luck in the contest, Carol...

awesome
Many conversations have been held over a cup of coffee...one of the most beautiful ones was at breakfast 1 1/2 years ago at of all places, A McDonald's...you get to know and understand a person. The caffeine's forgotten and you're less jittery...You cherish moments like that. beautifully written...smile and hugs...David

I've catered so many corporate confrences where coffee was a given. Is it not funny, how a warm cup of stimulant has always been the motivator to solving crisis throughout history? ~~ Suseann

wow, rather surprising! I just read an article this morning about a son who went home to visit his parents after a long estrangement and found his mother had been living with his dead father's corpse in their bed for over three years. I can kind of hear this as a dialogue in that bedroom.
