Delicately life passes by
A tiny footprint in the snow and forgets
How simple things used to be
Forgiveness falls on a heart of stone
Self-determination begins to breathe
Regardless of all that life dealt
..
I'll meet you where we drink the heavenly waters
Remember that I didn't promise the life we had
Just don't tell me how you wished for something different
..
Regret becomes the foremost thought
As age old suppressions rise to the surface
And overtake the old heart
Memories trickle down its path
A bigger footprint grows in place
Of that which haunts before

building up dreams of what you want and finding its not what you get can be hard to cope with later in life.moveing on means changing expectations.confuseing at times

Wow. I think you should write what this symbolizes in your author comments. The picture works so well with what you have written. You have beautiful words, Laura.

Wonderful
I know that 24 is not young anymore but you seem to have an older, wiser sole inside you. You write beyond your years. Love your poetry.

Great picture! This is such a sad, and thought provoking look at memory. Well expressed - short and potent meaning. Thank you so much for entering and best wishes!

Definitely contest worthy!!
This is by far one of the best poems I've ever had the pleasure to read and take something away from!! -
i like this poem a lot, its kinda of sad and really sweet at the same time. even in your lj version it made me think of a person who was reflecting on their relationship with a childhood sweetheart, someone they'd been friends with all their lives but secretly loved but it wasn't recriprocated

Actually it's a reflection on self-promises made as a child.
