I settle down with ink and pen
and turn my hands to draw once again.
Come forth, ye creatures! I bid thee be!
Come forth and harken unto me!
Under my furiously scribbling fingers
the residue of graphite lingers.
An eye, a face, fall into place
as I continue on,
then stand back to survey
the wonder that I've drawn.
From the drops of ink I spread
a human sprung and grew;
as Athena did from Zeus' head
this figure did so, too.
Now color! Rainbow, lend your strength
and clothe the naked fiber,
across the whole page's length
and lend a brand-new caliber.
Now pick up the pen once again
and thicken every line
and shadows fall as light beams lace
and cause the page to shine.
Shadow! Highlight! Depth and shade!
All the tools of my fair trade
come streaming through my willing hands
out into the page's lands.
But there's something I can't capture-
I don't know what it is.
It's as though there was a rapture
or some diffusion of bliss.
My imagination slips through my fingers
and leaves a shadow on the leaf.
I can never capture it:
and that is what gives me grief.
and turn my hands to draw once again.
Come forth, ye creatures! I bid thee be!
Come forth and harken unto me!
Under my furiously scribbling fingers
the residue of graphite lingers.
An eye, a face, fall into place
as I continue on,
then stand back to survey

From the drops of ink I spread

Author notes
I've been drawing lots of anime lately and somehow I can never capture everything to do with anime. It's like, there's some human element that no artist can ever capture, and I think those who come closest to capturing it we consider good artists.

Wow Chibi this is very nice! I really like the rhyme scheme.
Artistry...it baffles me. Just to think about it. Never mind I am talking to myself now.
