Sink, Swim,...or Sleep

Lost in my world
and unwilling to return
to the land of Reality
a world that I spurn

Wandering past daydreams
and slumbers dark and sweet
I begin to wonder:

Was there another place?
Is there another realm?
Am I another of one vast race
or the single pilot at the only helm?

Whrer is my crew? My bulkhead? My sail?
Without any of these things I fail.
And for another, where is my boat?
Without it I sink, I cannot float.

So as I am drowning
I lull myself to sleep
and try not to think of what's coming
the deep dark, and hungry deep...

A darkness devours
and longs for more:
to gobble the light
which it abhors.

So I drift into slumber
as I sink to the bottom
and flow with the currents
of dream jetsam and flotsam

And lay for long years
until the dawn of time
which I somehow missed before...

I could strike out for land
and nearly die for my life
or fall to the bottom
without any strife.

I'll sleep on it.

Author notes

The sink or swim metaphor refers to mankind's dilemma. We have been stranded in the middle of nowhere in the water. We can either strike for shore and be saved by Christ, or sink to Hell without raising a finger. Some people try to ignore this stark reality and just pretend that we'll all go to heaven and everyone's good. I suggest you take another look around and see if that's really true (hint hint: axe murderers). So we an either sink, swim,...or sleep.

HAve you asked yourself if this describes you?
