Our Perfect Place

As I peeked through your bedroom window, I saw a fairy sprinkling diamond dust on your eyelids. As your eyes started getting heavy, I was certain you had drifted to an unknown place.

I crawled through your bedroom window and picked a twinkle of the dust left behind. Before I knew it, you and I lay side by side.

As you opened your airy eyes, you gently touched my shoulder and said,  “We are in a field of dreams.”*

We sat up and stretched our arms out wide, and as we yawned, we took a deep breath of fresh air.  The air tasted like innocence.  We looked at each other with a comfortable silence as we were filled with an inner joy.  This was not a familiar feeling for you and I, but we did not hesitate to embrace this feeling, this place leaving a smile on your face.  I felt so free and smiled back at you.

We were dressed in the most beautiful gowns.  Yours was pale blue satin spattered with pink diamonds.  Mine was pink taffeta with blue ribbons and feathers woven into the fabric.  Our hair was curly and black, hanging to the small of our backs.

As we looked on yonder we saw an orchard of the most exotic fruit.  The fruit hanging from the stems was overgrown and glazed. As the smell moved towards us, we could taste the fruit as if we were already eating it.

Just beside the orchard lay fields of strawberries with little droplets of cream.  I wondered how the cream could be on the fruit as it was not yet plucked.

The sight was overwhelming!

There were dwarfs picking the strawberries, and pixies were hanging in trees as they passed the fruit from the orchard on to the elves. I wondered if this would be dinner.

There was a slight chill in the air, but the warmth of a Rainbow colored Fire drew our attention.  We felt the warmth and were spellbound by the dancing of the colors.

We could not wait any longer and started walking naked toe towards the fire.  As we started walking our dresses felt like fairy kisses on our skins.

In our field of dreams there were luminous paper flowers in the brightest of colors.  The flowers were centered with Rubies, yellow diamonds, Sapphires and Opals.  We touched the flowers very gently and in return left with butterfly kisses on the tips of our fingers. The feeling lingered for more that just a moment.

Suddenly the sound of music almost calling our names fell upon our ears.  The sweetest sound was spreading across the field of dreams.
We were left to wonder what else could there be?

As we approached the Rainbow fire, we were halted by a river.  On the river banks there were giant green and yellow frogs.  We just laughed as we knew this could not be real.

We could not see a bridge to cross the river, but fairies fluttering around us led us to the most captivating crossing.  There was a spider web spun from the one side to the other.  The color of the web was spun in a color almost crystal silver.

For the first time we hesitated, but held each other's hands tightly and started walking on the crystal web towards the other side.  After taking just a step or two we relaxed as we looked down to the frothing, violet colored water rushing over the river rocks.  Before we knew it, we had crossed.

Beside the rainbow fire was the orchestra we had heard.  Approaching them we saw a fairy strumming a harp, an elf playing the organ and a dozen elves stroking their violins.  Peacocks with their tails spread out wide were making the most beautiful sounds, as they were singing songs uplifting our names.  The air was filled with peace and harmony. Here there was no anger, no pain, and no discomfort...just the power of innocence caressing our souls.

*THIS WOULD FOREVER BE, OUR HAPPY PLACE.*

It was a festival in a fairytale, as pixies, fairies and elves were dressed in colors I had never seen, covered in silver and gold fairy dust.  Each of them were dancing, talking and laughing around the fire.

The sun was now setting, but giant fireflies lurking in the trees lit up the sky.

We were not sure how we were to fit in to this festival, but two fairies fluttered around us, pushing us in the direction of pink, candy clouds.  As we approached them, two staircases were revealed.  There was one for me and one for you.

I kissed you on your cheek as we separated, no longer afraid of what lay ahead. You climbed the right one, and I the left.

As we reached the top, the stairs disappeared.  We stood in amazement as a unicorn more beautiful than in any book ever seen, lay on the cushiony candy clouds. His horn glistened silver, brighter than any star in the sky.  We took our seats beside him and stroked him gently.  Suddenly an aura cocooned the three of us, and we were assured that nothing here would harm us.

We were the princesses of this fairytale.  The beauty, peace, tranquility and innocence were immeasurable.

We wished we could stay here forever, but knew the images seen would be forever burnt into our memories.

So my dearest friend Jo-Anne, if life pulls you back to darkness, close your eyes and find me in the field of dreams.  The mystic of tales unknown to all, have given us this place called *”OUR HAPPY PLACE.”*

    Hi Ami,

I loved the pure fantasy, story-telling tone of this piece. It is so different from what I'm used to reading from you but that only makes it all the more enjoyable. My boyfriend's daughter once told me of her "happy place" which is quite different from this, but still exists for the same purpose ~ I think we all need a safe, beautiful, and happy place to go within our minds.

As has been mentioned already, there are some typos/spelling errors, etc. and a few places that could perhaps use a comma or be split into a couple of sentences. I think you will catch several of these yourself when rereading, but if you'd like a more detailed list just let me know and I'd be happy to IM them to you.

I'm bookmarking this one for sure, as I know there are times I could use a visit to such a wonderful, uplifting place.

    Good luck in the contest!
    Much love,
    ~J.

        Hi Ami,
I went ahead and did the editing. Please read through it and make sure everything is okay to you. I saved the previous version when I edited, just in case. I may not have caught everything, but hopefully most of it. I'm honored you asked and trusted me with a write that is so important to you!

I hope you are happy with the few changes I made, and know that I was more than happy to do this, hopefully without hurting the integrity of this beautiful story.

        ~J.

This is a sweet story. I think we all long for that "magical" place we read about in fairy tales growing up. Thank you for sharing with us. All the best to you

Ami, I am so limited on time to cover all my favorite people that I cannot do a line by line. However, ther are some errors that need attention both in time tense and spelling. Lord i miss the days when all I had to do was be there for you. Jen and I are OK, but I may struggle soon if something doesn't break our way. This made me so sad as I have lost a piece I wrote about "Tinkerbell". We have moved too much and lost too much. Anyway, this write is probably more prose than poetry strictly speaking. That does not make it any less a beautiful work of 'poetry'. I hope you do well with it and still once again miss the days when you 'counted' on me for input. Already burned applause men tonight, but I love and miss you. RC
