Modern Princes

Taste the sickly satisfying sense
of being not just heard but listened to.
Their faith comes in leaps and bounds
as morning dogs to a letter box.
It builds a statue with a beacon of truth
with no regard to its neighbours of doubt.

For this is how you are immortalised
by your name in new textbooks.
Time will pass and the statue will fall
shattering the concrete traditions.
Nobody will ever look at where it was
without feeling there is something amiss.
Though they cheer and salute the act
they do not know where to turn.

Until the next power glutton tells them.
