Sleep

You are the dream I had last night. Soft spoken at first, but then gaining the courage to sing, you crooned about the loss of your keys - a song to build a life upon, so simple and yet so true. And you did not remember to shut the door when you left, and ever since, all emotions have escaped me. One by one they have gathered their wings, composure and suitcases and streamed on a the five-lined staff, G-clef. One by one, I felt their absence; they are stronger now that they are free. Tell me your story, tell me your story. Beg me to stay, but not once I'm gone. And if you decide to draw away from the world, hold my hand and take me along. I'll stay and remind you that the beauty is not found on the faces of people - it is used instead for the greater good, the more difficult choice, bearing us home. If love does not exist, be my imaginary heart. I will remember your sins, but only out of love for your humanity. Can you do the same for me? Or will ever sigh escaped be lost and truly off into the spiraling chaos from which we were born? Carry on, carry on. Into the night, where the light is subtle but strong. But can I trust words to find your heart? Or is it all just a farce of mistaken importance? A dance between us never stopped; the tempo changed and we found each other strange from the start. Pray that the magic will never wear off. It would be the elegy of human nature. Were we born to deceive or cater to a dream? Carry on.

Author notes

It's loosely formatted, I know. But there's something in it which is enough to make it poetry, I think.
