Tara's Smile

Missing image
A precious child's infectious smile,
warmed hearts from deep within.
Vibrant eyes of the bluest skies,
light freckles kissed her skin.

Fifteen years would disappear,
before I again heard Tara's name.
Tragedy had claimed her life,
but her smile remained the same.

No words will ever bring her back
our tears can't change the past.
I pray for those who loved her most,
Tara's smile will forever last.

Author notes

Option#1

Tara lost her life in a car accident at the age of 24. I know her parents very well, but I had not seen Tara since she was about 10.

as I read through this poem, I could feel the deep pain of losing someone very close. such a tragedy to lose our loved ones. the memories of this beautiful young girl are ones that should be held onto forever. even though the ones that loved her and cared about her wish that this tragedy never occurred. hold onto those memories, thats a way to keep her alive. I lost my best friend once also, her death had a huge impact on my life then and in many ways it still does.
you did an outstanding job with this poem. thank you for sharing your memories with us..

thank you for entering & good luck

this is a sad poem.. felt the pain while I read it. hope there were good memories before she passed.. sometimes memories are all we have. death of a child, family member, friend is always the hardest part of life, to cope with. never forgetting the person I think is important.

This piece was so beautiful, sad and tragic. I also admit that I thought the writer was talking about his daughter and my heart sank, as I continued to read, at the loss of this beautiful young woman. A true tragedy for her family and friends. My heart goes out. This was a lovely tribute to her and your friends. Well done--it really touched my heart. Best to you, Elizabeth

Sweetie, this is beautifully written. And though I didn't know Tara at all, through your memories of her,it is as your reader could catch a glimpse of who she was. I am sure her parents found this at least comforting in their hearts. You did good hun.

my wife's name is tara, so I had to click on this

Lovely piece, I loved the first two stanzas. The rhyming on the 3rd felt off, with back/most. Most is a word I generally dislike, but maybe that's just my odd pet peeve Great job!

I think this poem is one of the greatest I've read about someone passing away. you really put emotion in this and I understand the pain one goes through when someone they knew died..though you said you haven't seen her for years, it still hurts ya know? . My friend got in a car accident and died in the summer and though I didn't know him as well as other people may have, I still felt horrible and the only way for me to express my feelings was through poetry. Death is inevitable, but it can be overcome. Keep your head up and keep writin

This is a beautiful tribute to a childhood friend. It's very sad, but the poem reflects your heartfelt love and sentiment's very beautifully. I agree with one of the other comments, great poetry is best when written from personal experiences...Excellent job with this sensitive subject!
