Apple Pie and Home

Peaceful streams of bliss filled

Dreams float carelessly into

The seas of once upon a time

Where the stories that are told

By care free hearts are wishes

Dropped into the wishing well

On the wings of snow white doves

Carried away by the sandman on

A journey to where all wishes

Come true and anything is possible

If you believe in faeries and click

Your heels together three times

All the while reciting the lines

"There's no place like home"

Home where fresh baked apple

Pies sit cooling on the window sill

And you sit on the bank of a

Creek kicking your feet in the

Shallow water as the scent

Of that pie is carried to

You on the warm summer breeze

And as you lay back on those prickly blades

Of grass contemplating how best to

Sneak a piece of that pie before dinner

You catch site out of the corner of your

Eye something to make you forget that pie

And you spend the rest of a lazy afternoon

Chasing after an old bullfrog till day light wanes

And you suddenly remember that pie!

You race home just in time to

See your mother pulling a roast

From the oven and your father

Washing his hands Ma calls to you

To come set the table and

Wash up or you'll have none of

That pie you been thinking on

Ever since that smell wafted

Over to you on the breeze

Dinner at your house is a

Family affair and you

Listen as ma and pa talk

Over the happenings of the day

And you know there is no place

You'd rather be than home!

Lol so I pictured an old woman and man sitting in a old country home with a piping hot piece of pie in front of them and them conversing about how things were...how things are...and how things should be. Very well written poem!!!

    excellent

Awesome write, the imagery is fantastic. Graphic and background add a sense of softness to someone lost in a cherished thought. thanks for sharing. enjoyed the read and the end line hits home for me as I just went home for the holiday and I found there is nowhere I would rather be. Beautiful write.

Loved the cheeriness that goes well for the holiday spirit! I enjoyed your thoughts because, for me this poem seems a culmination of many of the good days I shared long ago with my immediate family.

I really got caught up in this one. It certainly brought back some of my own childhood memories. Very nicely done. I like the part where the character is destracted by a bullfrog. So typical of a child! Great work. Shancy.
