Staying Warm In The Cold

Outside the snow is falling

Like a velvet white blanket on the ground.

The trees proudly stand against the weight

of the new virgin snow.

Moonlight glitters upon the tiny flakes.

Inside the fire is burning

Embers red glow of the roaring fire.

The voice of the crackling logs seem to whisper.

The heat of the flames

Outdone only by we two alone.

As I sit by the fire with you by my side

Neither utters a word to one another.

But speaking volumes with our eyes.

My life could end right now

And I would have loved a lifetime.

i just love winter one of the reasons is the contrast between pure white cold and soft orange coziness. your poem has both of these elements
    way to go!

I don't have a fireplace where I live now, so this is one of my favorite fantasy daydreams when the snow starts flying outside. There's something so comforting about a fire. (sigh) You did a wonderful job of mixing intimacy with nature, and I especially love the ending. Thank you so much for entering the contest and best of luck to you!

Embers red glow of the roaring fire.

This is so pretty. I really got the feeling of it. "Moonlight glitters upon the tiny flakes" is soooo good. There is a question I have about "the voice of the crackling log seem to whisper" has a "single" log added to a "plural" seem. Either "logs seem" or "log seems." Anyway, you might want to read it again. It is a lovely poem. Shancy.

    "Outside the snow is falling
Like a velvet white blanket on the ground."
now THAT is a beautiful image. makes me wish for just that particular velvety kind of snow you get some nights. darn you global warming.

"Ambers red glow of the roaring fire."
is this maybe supposed to be "embers" or "amber"?
    keep it up man!

Great job my friend all things true love make me feel warm right now even though I fear my vision may be dying. But I am a dreamer so I will continue to hope. Thank you for sharing this it reminds me when I think of the mixed emotions and pain as well as uncertainty I'm feeling right now how wonderful what I'm seeking is. Awesome job my friend.
