Leaves me irresolutely
Between exhilaration and disquiet
Others have sailed here before
But this is virgin terrain for us
A horizon steeped in mystery
We are spoons nestled in love’s drawer
I awake to your face buried in my shoulder
Skin against skin,
Delirious, delicious, profoundly new
My breath is breathing me
I am sated
Dream saturated sleep
Pierced by slanted sunbeams
Heralds this new reality
Passion induced paralysis
Monosyllabic conversation
Shatters the muted gaze
The wake transmutes to memories
And so we disembark
With altered intimate realities
Humble beginnings
In the creation of the map
To these uncharted waters

Author notes
Romantic relationships are grist for the proverbial mill and as the double edged sword they have the capacity to empower or decimate with equal fercocity. Like the early explorers hell bent to prove the earth is not flat we, the lovers, forge ahead undaunted into these uncharted waters to create our own map. Here then is my attempt to put this into verse.

You build a clear scenario of love and passion, and I found it interesting that you kept changing the metaphors, rather than running with the opener of uncharted waters. Liked the originality of 'spoons', the exchanges of breath, the realistic passion induced paralysis and monosyllabic conversation ~
and the fine balance of exhilaration and disquiet... very telling, baring the soul to our scrutiny. An interesting piece, and well constructed.

with all of our movements and words we both get more intimate and also shatter the perfect picture we had of one another by our increasing familiarity...does familiarity breed contentment?...intriguing poem, reminds me of some of my own thoughts given eloquent voice by someone elses pen...a strange feeling...quite erotic in those first couple of stanzas then less so as a thought of have we spoiled perfection creeps in...well for me at least lol...of course I could be reading it totally wrong
thank you for this poem

Oh, i really like this... it is definately like "navigating unchartered waters", that's a perfect example. I especially love this line;
"Delirious, delicious, profoundly new" which just sounds so fantastic and a little playful which really think adds to this piece.
Nicely done, nice to see you posting again... you were gone awhile ...
Enjoyed,

And what beautiful verse it is !!!! Gorgeous imagery you have used with fabulous description...
Loved these lines :
" Navigating these uncharted waters
Leaves me irresolutely
Between exhilaration and disquiet "...
How true...how exact...
Getting to know someone certainly is unchartered territory...plain sailing and setbacks...new discoveries...sometimes its only the journey thats great...if we're lucky enough...the destination reached...wonder if we ever truly reach the depths of someone though ???
Fabulous piece you have penned....very thought provoking....

Ferguson, you rarely fail to leave me with something to ponder. I had never considered myself much of an explorer, yet each time we love another we are navigating through unfamiliar territory, for each love is vastly different than that which preceeding it.
I do so love seein you grace the pages of AP once more.
