Graveyard

Oh, gray, cold stones,
Why stand yea so silent?
Have you no songs from dwellers,
No messages from their time spent?
Was it in vain and without meaning?
Or is your silence a predetermined message?

    Interesting

In terms of death and dying a person doesn't die when he should but when he can in this life; be it a minute or more, at home or work, we die does it matter when. As for messages I think that the stones themselves and their silent is a message in itself.

As for the veiled reference to god I think Sigmund Freud has the answer on that front ‘At bottom God is nothing more than an exalted father’, the father of course being a reference to the predominate drives of a persons life, of course father could also be construed as ‘mother’ in natures form of growth if you viewed from historical views.

    Very Interesting

Short but sweet... well not exactly sweet, but good. I enjoyed reading your poem. Good luck in my contest.

Wow... Short but definitely very powerful. This really made me think about things differently. "silent as the grave" comes to mind. So many souls in one place, yet not a word. Brilliant job.

    Lovely

Short, and to the point, I like a piece that is very concise yet proves a point or provokes thought, good job.

    Brilliant piece

Now I loved this. This was full of images in such a short piece. Full of atmosphere. But, are the stones so silent? Read my piece:

'Grieving Gravestones.' Tell me what you think? I thought your piece here was just wonderful

    THANK YOU!

You get it! So many songs unsung, so many stories left unsaid. Thanks for the comments.

this is really intense- i pictured myself standing at my grandmother's grave and remembered looking around and thinking that there were so many stories not being told. well done!

    THANK YOU!

Thanks for your comments, but I have a thing for grave yards. They are so peaceful and quiet. Somehow the gravestone is suppose to tell our story, but a;as, it too is silent.
