.It may be of interest to some that Australia is having the worst drought in known history. In some places it has not rained for over 7 years except for an odd shower which doesn't even dampen the ground. Monsoonal tropical rains in summer used to come most years but they have failed consistently. this was callet 'The Wet' or wet season.
We’ve been in drought for more years, than we’ve ever had before,
and haven’t had the monsoon rains that flood from shore to shore.
The western rivers have been bone dry, the past three or four years,
unfilled channels wending south, that echo our most dreaded fears.
The coastal plains are almost dry, and water has become quite rare,
now is washing of cars, and in four minutes shower and wash our hair.
We argue endlessly what should be done and how we can make a fix,
if it’s a natural phenomenon or man made, or climate changing tricks ?
So we continue in ever decreasing circles, the problem’s getting glum,
until light has turned into darkness, for we’ve walked up our own bum.
Then maybe we’ll realise the obvious, when we just finally pause a bit,
and very soon it’ll be too late, and then we will really be in the shit.
.
Author notes
Australia is in its' longest recorded drought with water supplies dwindling fast and being strictly rationed.

Hi fellow Aussie! Yes it's getting very grim isn't it? You have captured it well and I like the bit about 'endless arguing' - gotta love those politicians!!

This is a very good poem. I would have like more of a chant asking for rain, but even so I enjoyed it. Thank you for entering

To chant or not to chant
We don't chant for rain , we just pray. I understand that chanting is something done by the american indian but not having sufficient knowledge I decided to do it 'our' way .

Cool piece, I was able to understand the conditions of which you live and have lived, the verbiage was well done, without verbosity which is always a positive thing. Good luck in your contest(s) with this poem.

Our situation is indeed looking grim. Wouldn't it be such bliss to see a good torential downpour, that lasted for days and days. Best of luck in this contest

Like it, like it. Love the Ozzy humour at the end. Hope the weather improves soon. As Legend says, "You can have some of our rain if you want" lol. Well expressed.

Great write Bazza you may like to change places for a while here in Nottingham England We are sick of the rain and chilly weather. Having said that I am glad that we have four fairly regular seasons That we don't have the problem that you and many other countries do.Mankind will carry on beating up Mother Earth until like all good parents she gives us a Good paddling , my guess is it will be far to late to alter our ways

Hello Bazza,
Although this is on a serious subject, it has a little humor in it too
I hope for all of Australia's sake the drought is over soon.I think you have done an excellent job in conveying how some people may feel with this catastrophe going on in their everyday lives. Another great write my friend.
Take care and have a wonderful day.
Don
