Eye Beam

How many among us have ever been seen
Removing a mote, while ignoring the beam
that rests in our own eye, distorting the truth
When "love one another as I have loved you"

is counsel we're given that comes from the Lord
conveniently spoken and often ignored
that brings into focus a glorious light
expanding our vision and healing our sight

When put into practice it broadens our view
strengthens the wounded and softens us,too
For spirits existed and lived before birth
giving each person an infinite worth

with power, potential and purpose divine
that's not always simple or easy to find
but when it's discovered a person is free
and given a glimpse into eternity

then wise as the serpent and harmless as doves
we learn to uncover the meaning of love
By serving the living and those who have died
with a smile on our face and a BEAM in our eye

    Excellant /intriguing/challenging

A most excellant write indeed. Your message needs to be heard around the world, especially now. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there are at least 400 official hate groups that exist in this country. They target the GLBT Communities, the Jewish Communities, and people of color. I don't understand why anyone hates an individual or group, just because for some reason they are different from one's self. You might like to check out the website: teachingtolerance.org, for more info on combating hate groups in America.
I'm a former Utahn, not LDS, but your picture of the LDS Manti Temple is quite nice.
Good luck in your quest to promote compassion and tolerance.

Your rhyme is gret. Your message even better.
"with power, potential and purpose divine

Loved the alliteration here. It makes for a really strong line. Good stuff. --->pixxie<---

    EXCELLENT

I like this expression of both meanings of beam. That of a beam of wood and beam of light. The rhyming flows both powerfully and smoothly. Excellent poetic composition!!!
