Forgiveness

We are wronged by people daily,
but to not forgive is unconscionable.
The Universal King had died for all;
for in eternity's view, we're pardonable.

He has given absolute amnesty
to everyone who has accepted Him.
Make no mistake about this unmerited immunity -
Grace's favor (over the course of Life) wears thin.

Death is inevitable, and our spirits
this mortal frame will leave;
so take advantage of God's condonation
to be granted a heavenly reprieve.

Human lives hang in limbo
under the penalty of death;
speak kindly of others and refrain...
From another wasted breath.

Since I believe in the Christ's resurrection, His death is in the past tense.

    Lovely write- and again, the universal truths transcend any one faith. That is the sort of spritual poetry I admire. I also appreciate that your poems are positive and give one a sense of goodness and well being- no hateful exclusive stuff that some "Christian" poetry can contain. I believe Christ's message was a good one. I also believe that as human beings we screw a lot of things up.
    This is a lovely poem- Cheers.

    To not forgive those who hurt or wronged you is to punish yourself for what you went through. If you never forgive then you will never forget and the emotions you harbor will drive you insane.
    Forgive and forget.

    Sorry about my ranting, good poem thanks for sharing it, it kinda got me going, haha.

    This is so true, for the Bible said that we shouldn't harbor harsh feelings towards our fellow man in our hearts. But that we should forgive them as Christ also forgave us...

    Oh wow, I do love this poem! I am a very religous person and reading this brings me such pride and happiness, I am faced so many times with friends who do not and won't believe and its just so very frustrating.
    I loved the last line, it stuck out so strongly in my mind and made me go, "Wow," as impressive.
    Good work!

    yes he was brutaly beaten and hung on a cross on calvary and died and was buried and on those 3 days he went doen to the pits of hell and took the keys back with him and there is nothing that we can do in our life time to repay him for what he has done for us but worship him and pray to him because we are not even worthy but with his love and grace maybe one day we will get to see his face when we eneter into paradise some day soon

    Very nicely written. Brings to mind the saying "To err is human. To forgive is divine." Forgiveness is a must in life to continue with our own. If we carry the weight of grudges, we are surely to become mired down in those feelings. Thank you for sharing this wonderful write and the notes.

    There is praise in my heart when I read this poem - His forgiveness knows no bounds, but we need to take your words " Make no mistake about this unmerited immunity - Grace's favor (over the course of Life) wears thin", very seriously. Our forgiveness of others AND of ourselves is important and possible under this forgivess of God. Thanks for this reminder. Frans.

    I do not really go in for the Christian thing - it is usually too hypocritical for me (think Bush and Blair and their crusade).

    However, I read this for what you say, mentally editing out the speculation, and found it quite pleasant. I particularly like the last verse.

    Thanks

    very very well done! I love spiritual poetry and this speaks of lessons so true. It IS a waste of breathe to say things that really don't need saying. Hence the term "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say it at all" and God did want us to love thy enemy and thy neighbor no matter what wrongs they do us. Great job here

    A beautiful spiritual write. To forgive is divine indeed. If Jesus can do it we all can do it and the saviour died so we could. Your poem is a superior illustration of a great sacrifice for mankind. Well written and well presented.

    What a Witness to his love................

    you are in this piece. If we cannot forgive, God will not forgive us. It is very hard to do and the grace to do so has to come from God alone!!! I was severly physically abused as a child robbing me of a happy go lucky childhood, but it seems as though I have released all anger a long time ago and don't even know how. It comes from the grae God gives us all to forgive. I have a harder time of forgiving myself than others it seems. Thank you fro thid thought provoking piece you have penned!!!~~Toni~~

    I can relate. . .

    This poem got me to think about myself for a moment. It made me remember all the times when I would hold grudges for long periods of time, and eventually get over them months or maybe a year later. Now it's hard for me to not forgive and forget.

    Forgiveness keeps friends together. If you don't forgive people around you, you will never have friends, because everyone does something mean to someone else at least once in your life. Friends don't need to hold grudges

    This is so true. What right do we have to hold a grudge. To be forgiven by God we need to forgive those who tresspass against us. Jesus paid such a high price, that we should forgive in an instant

    Wow. Very good. The poem itself was stunning, but that very last line was powerful and effective. I find it such a hard subject to write about - forgiveness. Not to mention such a hard thing to do. You did an excellent job.

    Forgiveness is what helps us to get past the hatred and the injustice done. It is what separates us from the evil that befell us. I really liked your poem. It is so needed right now.

    Great spiritual poem showing forgivness. I find myself confused by some aspects of religion, the only thing I truly know is that jesus died so our sins could be forgiven. Though I find that hard to belive that would happen considering what we did to him.

    A very impressive write here as well and quite profound in its meaning. If we aren't willing forgive others, then how can He forgive us? Keep the ink flowing and I will keep reading. You are definitely going on my favorites list. Love and hugs...

    "A Heavenly reprieve"--such a wondrous wish. As mere humans, if we belive strongly enough, I'm sure that most would pray for death instead of living in this world.

    I have a question, a lovely friend of mine asked me about her chances of getting into Heaven if she takes her own life. I told her that I thought it was probably not likely, but I can't actually find it in the Bible. Do you know the answer? Patricia

    Wonderful admonishment. I do have a few things:
    The Universal King (I am not really familiar with this term). I think the "had" is detrimental to what you are saying. It implies past tense, therefore not applicable to today's world.

    Line 8 is confusing, for me. I am not sure what you mean.

    Line 11- condonation. What is this. Do you mean commendation?

    The last stanza is unclear.

    Over all, this could be really good, but I think it needs tweaking. The message is good, and well worth the effort, just not as well executed as it could be.

    Thank you for sharing.

    Awesome! Beautiful poem about forgivness. It is so true, we must forgive if nothing more as a thank you for the forgivness we received from God.
