I count my blessings every day I live
to have the love of friends in life that care
for their unselfish love to me they give
in times of grief their prayers with me they share.
With special friends since youth that I have known
and some I made on site true friendships stand;
with spiritual friends the bond has grown
and mates I have around me close at hand.
Although some stay awhile then sadly leave
and, without reason, disappear from sight,
the time they spend now gone - no use to grieve;
they touch our souls then vanish like the night.
Hold dear to all your special friends with care;
for ever precious are the dreams you share.

but none the less still relevant today. I'm new to this group so am only now reading some of the poems here. Thank you for an enjoyable introduction not withstanding the subject of the poem.

No truer words spoken with such clarity.
"Although some stay awhile then sadly leave

I really enjoyed the read and have to agree that there are many chapters in our lives as there are souls that come and go some welcome some unexpected but they all leave thier impressions on the delicate tapestry of our lives.
I like it, I like it so!

I must admit that I am starting to like the sonnet and need so spend a little energy getting that form into my mindset. My poetry is a mixed bag some read like rants and others like sad melancholy it all depends on my mood.

Precious memories. They always fade away slowly. our friends fade away and we orselves fade away as well.
When I look back at my life I see mostly figures of the evnts. They seems tobe real yet when I try to get closer they are dissapearing. I know the history of important events in my life yet those events are not the events that happened. Ghosts. Guess thats what they are.
But what is a thing that is real then? The moment we live now and here is not really something that exists as it goes either will happen or have happened.
And so time goes. And so we go along with it. But we have feelings. Feleings for ghosts taht make them true? Maybe thats the reality what we need? Who knows, who knows...
A nice poem here. Yet I dont think that its the memories that make the friends orf riendship so dear. Without the feeling those would be empty figures in the dessert. Thus I think that we should hold onto the feeling. The feeling that binds us with others. Making us a little less lonlely. And a little more true. -

Dear Damon, thank you for your lovely comment. I believe our conversations these past few days helped me to write it, as it made me realize how close I came to losing you, and after losing Brian so suddenly it would've been too much to handle my American friend. Good friends are precious and I consider you among my special friends. Take care of yourself Damon I want you around for a lot of years, no more scaring us.
Love from your Australian friend.

Joan this is a beautiful poem. I love it and wondered as I read it if our emails the last few days had anything to do with it having been written. Will you let me know please?
Deke/Damon -
There really is nothing like true friendship. I truly believe it can mend hearts, bridge waters and build the heart and courage of a lion in the meekest of us all. This is just beautifully done Joan and speaks volumes! To be honest, it make me tear up
But you know I'm a sap...just don't tell anyone I'm not mean and evil ok?
Love ya heaps my friend

Thank you Sweetpea,
Yes I agree, some folks come into our lives but for reasons unknown to us they leave, some have such an impact on our lives their memories linger. The lifelong friends are real treasures to have.

Dear Joan, your third quatrain expresses a thought I had yesterday, how friends fall silent and disappear. We don't know why that happens, and you are probably right that there is no use in grieving. We are better to remember with gratitude what they gave us.
I love your couplet, and generally the sonnet is very good.

So very true David.

the older you get the more its the truth!

Dear Bea,
What you say is so true.
Many people come into our lives, some forever, some for only a short stay. With special friends a mutual understanding grows and developes and a lasting partnership is forged on a basis of love and trust.
Some friendships can be quite longstanding without great closeness in which understanding of each other is fairly superficial but relationship is nevertheless cordial and affectionate.
A few, because of ill-nature, don't even attempt to reach understanding. Suspicious, malicious, spiteful, prejudiced, intolerant or self-opinionated, self-gratifying, proud, over-sensitive and touchy, they soon become difficult to relate to and mutual misunderstandings result in early partings.
It is said that some friends come for a reason, some for a season, some for a lifetime. It is the latter that are most to be treasured and you are one of those special few that I count as a real blessing in my life. Thankyou Bea for having become one of my special friends, for your loyalty, your understanding and your love.
Your sonnet says it all. I would love to add this to the Wyleian collection as number CLXXIV.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh.
