I went away. I left my place right here
if only for a while.
When I'd forgotten how it was so near
to all that made me smile.
So many other things that kept me lost,
that left me on my own.
A little time to be myself; such cost
in love to be alone.
Bewildered now by all I used to know,
I stand and stare a while.
So many happy faces come and go
with barely time to smile.
So much to do I feel again I'm lost
and find it hard to breathe.
It seems returning also has its cost,
a cost that made me leave.
I settle down and know my place is here,
our time has come at last.
It doesn't feel so frantic when you're near,
time doesn't go so fast.
So panicked by the hourglass' falling sands
I bolted on my own
The burden lightened by your willing hands
I needn't be alone.
Perhaps I only had to run so fast
To know that I had come home safe at last.

Oops, missed that one. I was trying out something where I'm re-using rhyme pairs, so it should have been "here" and "near"...
I have been doing some writing betweentimes, just most of it hasn't been posted here!

A bit of a gap between postings here but I think this little write addresses that very nicely. Good to see something you've written. Enjoyed this very much as you might imagine with the excellent rhyming and meter I've grown to expect of you. Not sure about rhyming "here" with "here"
but good job.
