Would you sing for me if I asked you to?
Would you write me melodies about love and life?
Can you find the time to love me?
In between the beating of the music, can you hear me?
You spoke in soft chords bringing life to words of black on white
Singing somber songs about a loss of love and touch
Making my knees fail when you caught my eye,
And in the weeks to come catching me when I fell in love
I know exactly when it all began looking back at that night
It was the beginning of my first real love, my wreckoning.
It began in a fury of passion and stolen touches.
You'll always be the one to make me bend my morals.
In the end I couldn't blame you. And you never blamed me
But the passion faded. As did your music.
And we both needed new things to breathe live into us.
Listening to you now singing in those same soft tones
I feel my heart beat twice as fast and my hands shake.
Reminding myself again, you're just my favorite memory.
Author notes
It's option 2 just in case my poem didn't make it clear.
Just to tell you, I loved the way you wrote out the rules. Some people really just don't get how to follow the rules to a contest.
