Thanksgiving Dressing

Her smile is simply beautiful; her eyes are pools of black
Little bare feet on the porch; her world a wooden shack
Daddy in the melon patch and mommy cooking peas
Little brother in the front yard, patches on his knees

Happy in a world away from glamour, glitz, and news
Nature plays grand music, no such thing as rock or blues
Running in the morning sun and hair a wondrous mess
Lying ‘mid the daisies in a tattered little dress

Gramma died the other day and sleeps beneath the ash
Uncle Charlie came to call and brother got a rash
Poppa poured the apple wine and momma lit the wicks
Candles on the birthday cake: tonight she will be six

Charlie left at 8 o’clock astride his favorite mule
Bellies full and bedtime, nine o’clock the family rule
Holding hands they all gave thanks for being truly blessed
Sammy went to sleep tonight beside her tattered dress

Dreams of perfect flowers in a world of perfect trees
Candy on the branches and no patches on our knees
Shiny little sundress with a ribbon in her hair
Perfect little slippers and some happiness to share
Sunshine all around us in a perfect sky of blue,
Thankful for our blessings and the Love in me and you

"Always, it comes back love.." I really miss you, and am so glad the poetry is still here.

    Precious and adorable

My beloved friend and Poet --

What a wondrous write, filled with a lesson too late for the learning for many of us.

I am dancing to your song in my little tattered dress -- I am free upon a hillside in warm sunlight filled with zest!

Thank you for counting my blessings for me You are a true marvel.

    Love

    Myra

oh, you warm my heart! The poorest of us were so rich. There is laughter in these words despite the urchin image. "her hair a wondrous mess"...innocence peeking through the tangles with a wish for no combs to ever undo them.

In those days, no roses, just a tree dripping with honey sweet clusters of locust blossoms! One for you, em!

You done went & made me hungry, Scribe. Beautifully penned, em...a snippet of Life being revealed in its depths of glory, its peripheral immersion in Grace, its unveiling of tender Mercies...Glorious & grand, my Friend...Good luck in the contest... Wanda

So lyrical these lines - like a song - reminds me of one country and western song that was long on the charts. Easy to read and understand.

    Very Well Done

This is really beautiful and so very well written. Reminds of Thanksgiving at my grandmother's when I was child, not a care in the world.

This is very cute: a little rural family of 80-100 years ago, living out a simple peasant life somewhere in the back of beyond. Very charming. I shall applaud a world which has long passed away.

I'm so touched by this poem. It is one of the best I have read here! Such a beautiful subject matter, flow is excellent and rhyme is great. A true winner here.

    Superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just marvelous!!!!!!!!! I love it and you made it sound so enticing to revert in that "back to nature" kinda down on the farm lifestyle!!! I think we could all get away from the busy glitz and glamour and this world of fake and superficial people and go back to a time when tha bare basics was almopst luxury and family was what mattered most!!!!!!!It seems there are few with that sense of family these days when time seems to be blending together going so quickly and our children are grown and well we look back and think "Did I really need to work that much , did we really need all that "stuff" that I missed so much of my family life because of it?"You did such a nice job here on this poem it really impacts the reader all the way through!!!!!!!!!!!!!Superb job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Toni
