There's something about the city
that I just really love and find a comfort.
You see, I'm not one for busy lives, smelly air, crowded places.
Still, there is a quiet solace in the noisy traffic,
strange as that may seem.
Maybe it's the fact that nobody really looks,
which means I can be free to wander in myself.
Nobody will care if I have some strange shirt,
some funny shoes, some weird hairdo.
Maybe it's the way people rush past me,
leaving me to peacefully walk as if my world is standing still
and their harsh chaos just melting away past me.
Or it could be the way anyone can walk the streets,
and even if one person turns them away, they'll find someone eventually
who will give them a smile and direct them to the subway.
People walk by in skinny jeans, pea coats, witchboots.
People walk by in glittery hot pants and brightly coloured wigs.
No matter who you are you can find a place to fit in.
I'd say it's that but I'm still just not sure.
There are hotdogs to be eaten, warm pretzels to munch on,
hot nut stands to make me giggle, sites to be seen.
There are smells that make my mind dance,
and smells that make my stomach flop.
To be truthful I'm just not sure what it is;
But then I start to thinking as to why I love it so much.
And maybe, just maybe?
It's the fact that after wandering around in a big grey city,
I can come home and really appreciate my colourful little family.

Way cool. The way you laid this out made it easy for me to follow along. Having grown up in Southern California I grew up when CA was growing up from lots of places where they had yet to pave it all over or put up houses. I like city life only for the conveniences there. I seem to be one of those that seems to attract people's attention too much.....don't know it is. I just try to go into that mode of being part of the scenery and most of the time I would still be drawing attention to myself without even trying. I am now hiding out in a small town in CO. Rich.

You are absolutely right! The city is the place where dreams are made and the place where everyone has a place. I think it is because there is so little in the country, it's easy to notice if someone has a tattoo, or pink hair, or short shorts on. But in the city, you are nothing more than another face. it's the place where normal and abnormal mesh. Thanks for the right, It makes me feel like I am home. I have a terrible longing to leave this place and be back in the big city.
