A Very Special Hug

Missing image

A few years ago, maybe four years or five,
I heard of a Lady, who seemed quite unique,
At that time, for knowledge and wisdom I’d strive,
Exploring with joy any useful technique …

The books I have studied were most precious pearls,
With truth filled and knowledge, those scripts were indeed,
Embarking my mind onto uplifting swirls,
My soul’s wings would soar with such breathtaking speed …

But then I discovered Her picture so sweet,
Within this one book I just stumbled upon,
And soon, the desire grew, this Lady to meet,
Who looked, in Her dress, like an elegant swan …

Her Indian sari was white as pure snow,
Her dark, noble body with grace to adorn,
The more I admired Her, the more love would grow,
To this special Lady, in Kerala born …

I heard of Her holiness and of Her Love,
For all living beings, for rich and for poor,
This Lady, I dearly behold and belove,
Since millions She’d hug, with Her hug She would cure …

And strangely, but clearly, one night I would dream,
About this sweet Lady, the Great Hugging Saint,
This dream seamed so real, and with joy I would beam,
The bliss was so great, that I threatened to faint …

Within this strange dream, Lady Amma would say,
That I was Her child, and Her darling so sweet,
I fell on my knees, and my pride went away,
A more holy Lady I never did meet …

She seemed like a goddess with radiant light,
Her voice was so gentle, like spring’s softest breeze,
My heart leaped with joy and great bliss at Her sight,
And soon, I could feel all my worries appease …

The next day, I felt as if I were transformed,
No more did dark thoughts and dark feelings exist,
What magic this Lady I’ve dreamt of, performed,
I was like a new-born, by angels just kissed …

The same dream came back, one more time, even two,
And each time, my soul felt so joyful and light,
It seemed as if slowly my soul did renew,
Becoming transparent, its core shining bright …

My longing got stronger, my mind set on Her,
All worldly distractions just faded away,
And soon, the occasion to meet did occur,
I eagerly waited for this special day …

And when I arrived to this most special place,
Where Amma would stay, very near here, in France,
My heart started filling with most divine grace,
The moment I captured a very first glance …

I had the impression of being at home,
Of coming to rest on a most arduous path,
I felt so protected ‘neath this light-filled dome,
The cave of my heart a cathedral would be …

Advancing the alley, like every young bride,
To meet with the Lady who’d call me in dreams,
A true celebration took place right inside,
The speed of my heart-beat attained its extremes …

I felt like a teenager at her first kiss,
Yet nothing compared to the Love I would feel,
The moment She hugged me, there was only bliss,
Her motherly Love would all grief in me heal …

When raising my eyes to look into Her face,
I just saw a wonderful cloud of white Light,
Right there, where Her body with infinite grace,
Was dwelling in saintliness – oh, what a sight ! …

I knew now how Amma could come to my dream,
No human She was, but a Goddess on Earth,
Her Love flowed through Her like an eternal stream,
Bestowing on millions spiritual birth …

So, when you see Amma one night in your sleep,
It means that She would be delighted to meet
Your heart for a hug which forever you’ll keep,
Your soul to enlighten, your life to complete …

This is a real story about my truly blessed encounter with Amma (Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi), or “the Hugging Saint”, how She is often called. Until this day, Amma has hugged over 26 million people all around the globe … I am so grateful that I have been one of them …

in case you are very curious about Amma now, I have written another poem for Her recently, it's got Her photograph and a link to Her website.

    Captivating

Maa, you’ve been blessed…. this has touched me beyond words…. Amma seems truly a God's extension…
It’s an entrancing story beautifully written in rhyme…. I felt as if I was sitting next to you and listening intently… dreams can be fascinating…
I quote “dreams are free therapy, but you can only get appointments at night…. lol….
    maa,I thoroughly enjoyed this…

    Marion this was great.
Even from the 'story point of view'

I thought you told it very well without boring me. In fact, it was quite interesting.

From the poetic point of view this was fantastic though from the story point of view it didn't seem to spark that much.Everything was perfect except the theme, but yet it's a brilliant piece! Thanks for entering and best of luck

....Dear maa, I'm trying to think of the right words to describe how I felt reading this poem. ummm I think words do not like me lately because I can never think of the right thing to say or write even though I want to say a lot. My heart and mind cannot connect to my mouth or hand properly but I'm trying really hard to write down how much this poem made my heart smile It is so heartfelt and beautiful. Do you know I bet all the good words you could think of to describe Amma I would think descibe you too ! Also I want to thank you sooo much again for telling me about Amma coming to visit Ireland. I can't wait to meet her next month and I feel even more exicted and lucky to even be getting the chance to meet Her after reading your poem ♥ This line really struck me "My soul’s wings would soar with such breathtaking speed" because your soul must fly on angel wings, just like hugs from the heart ♥
lots of luck in the contest and always !
    I love you,
    ellie x

    dearest legend,
again, I feel very humbled, and a huge stone falls from my heart (do you say that in english ? it's a german proverb to say that one feels release )...
I find this last round extremely challenging and had no idea if I were able to write any poem at all which would live up to mark's and the judges' high standard.
the wonderful comments of my fellow competitors brighten my heart and help me to keep on, and if a judge or mark tells me that one of my poems was worth the read and even pleases a little bit, I am in paradise.
after all, this contest helps me to surpass myself, something I have probably not learned yet in life ...
thank you and all the others who are part of this contest, for accomplishing your precious role with kindness and grace ...
wow, that was a long thank-you-letter.
I don't know, but this morning I feel so happy and grateful.
    I can't contain my joy ...
    much love,

    maa

    dearest diana,
you are soooooo sensitive and receptive, sweet one, I am amazed, no, not amazed, cause I knew it, just delighted ...
this poem is very dear to me, and I was a bit anxious to share such an intimate experience with others ... because every reaction to it, positive or negative, multiplies here for me a thousand times ... you know what I mean ...
you know, my mother was very sceptical in the beginning, and even thought that I had converted to hindouism and fell into the traps of a sect ... yet, one day, she had a dream of Amma too !!! she hardly believed it, but decided to come with us to meet Her, since "Amma had called her" (which means something, since my mum is neither religious, nor devotional, but very rational)... so she came with hubby and me for her first hug ... ... afterwards, she said under tears and with brillant eyes : "this is the very first time in my life that I am feeling happiness." she was so moved that she went away to hide her emotions ... this experience has truly changed her ... I am so happy ...
well, like always, I'm talking too much ...
thank you again for your kindness of commenting so wonderfully on my poems.
    I love you.

    much love,
    maa

The diversity in the poems and story tellings in this contest is one of the joys of judging I have not read a piece in any of the categories that has disappointed In fact they have almost made judging impossible This is yet another wonderful example of what I mean A truly beautiful story which as with all one never notices the length as one is to busy reading and enjoying Good luck in the contest

My skin and scalp were charged with electricity the whole time I was reading this, far beyond goosebumps, a wave of power moved up from my center to every end and back and forth in wave upon wave microseconds fast and rippling. I saw the vision of her face of light, I am humbled to share this experience with you my sister! Thank you for the blessing of this story!

This was BRILLIANT! This had such a great... you know- just everything about it was original... The story was told very well in here- and with all of the detail you had, not only did you put it in a poem, but you put in rhyme, which takes even more work!

I wish you the best of luck in winning this thing- I know you can do it!
