You Don't Look at Me

he would wake her up with a sprinkle of kisses
on her nose and shoulders
they'd dance dance dance
amidst bedsheets and blankets
dance to the words
they thought were true

and we danced under the stars
and thought summer would never end
sloppy kisses in the rain
and fireflies in the sky
you'd look at me like I was special
you don't look at me anymore

he stopped giving her kisses
and her shoulders are cold, so cold
the blankets are orderly
the words to their song weren't true

it's no longer summer
and the rain is cold, so cold
the fireflies are gone
you don't look at me anymore

he doesn't kiss my shoulders
and he and I don't dance under the skies
but I have to do something
while I wait for you to look at me once again

Liz! I'd welcome you back to Allpoetry, but I've been gone for a long time myself. I was very excited to get a comment from you though! Here, I love the contrast between the light, lively bed and the neatly made bed. It's kind of like a visual let down and it works really well. Congrats on the triumphant return ) ~Sam /f (if my memory serves me, one of those should make a flower!)

This is such a sad poem. A good sad poem. My heart really goes out to you because I know the feeling of the longing for returned love. This was a great poem and really put your heart on the page. Great write!
