It was a quiet night like this, not too long ago
When I looked up into the sky to see a heavenly show
It was a night just like this, when heaven touched earth
The beauty, the memory, of that night was of endless worth
Lying on the beach, looking across the water of the bay
Seeing the splendor that comes as the sun is going away
And, just for that split moment, the world stops its spin
The kind of moment that makes little boys, like myself, grin
It was within this moment that God tore apart the skies
Reaching down from heaven and opening my blind eyes
So that the true beauty that lies in life, I might finally see
The beauty, the truth, which releases the soul to roam free
So with the heavens open, the love that dwells there poured out
And in that instant I knew that there was a God without a doubt
Then the moment was gone, but the memories of it remained
Memories of how, for just an instant, the wonder of heaven was contained
