October Birthdays (Silver Trophy)

October Birthdays


The month at hand so full of celebrations

of people close to my heart

of husbands, partner, sister, niece

brother in law, and friends, for a start


They're deserving, in my eyes, you see

of remembrance and birthday loot

but the old pocket book doesn't allow

to favor them as I used to do


So a sincere wish for many more

and whacks upon the butt

must suffice for their birthdays now

even for the one who's a real nut


Just let me say what I came here for

which is relayed to those so dear

Happy Birthday to them all

I'll return to say it again next year

    The only member in my family born in October is dad. The rest are born in March: mom 21, sis 24, me 26, bro 28! We are more a spring family
    I myself don’t like October much, you know schools open at this month after 3 months summer vacation!
    Dear Dee, you have talked about this month in a charming way and I felt I can love this October month and its birthdays in frame of your words. The third stanza was really sweet in my opinion.
    Thank you so much for sharing and congratulations on silver trophy. It did deserve one!

    PS. I have a question which have curious me to ask you maybe over one year (every time I see your username, this question bells) why did you choose catz as your SN? Or at least why not cats? Oooh now at last I asked you this question

      Thank you so much for the nice comment, Vernal Bloom I'm glad you liked the poem. It was a fun contest to which I entered it. Yeah, October is a busy birthday month in my family.

      You asked how I chose catz as a username.. well, I've used that online name since I first started using the internet back in 1996. I used to have two wonderful cats and and thus the name catz. The z on the end is just an added twist taken partly from an old newspaper comic strip, "The Catz 'n Jammer Kids"
      Catz has become a much used name since I started useing it. I used to always be able to use it for things such as part of an email address, username on other sites, etc. But now I can rarely use it... When I try, I get the message, 'username already taken'. Maybe I can consider that my one claim to fame...

    Well done. This is a happy poem. My birthday is in October.

    I like the bouncy rhythm and the way the roll of the words off the tongue is so suitable to the mood of the poem.

    Your thoughts are some of the more endearing. These are the birthdays we've all shared, though in not so many ways, in all ways somewhere, every word, all of these have at some point happened to every one of us!

    a good piece here nice to see a change of direction too rather it being a birthday poem for yourself you show your nature; kind, by wishing others well for their birthdays spill ink and twist me into the crazy shape of love...

    LOL... I had two husbands, Jeannette... not at the same time of course, both are gone now, though. I divorced both of them but remained close friends with #2 up until he passed away a couple of years ago. The first one died about a year ago. You can read a bit about them.. or at least how I feel about each of them if you go to the lists on my author page... there's a Husband #1 list and a Husband #2 list...

    There.. curiosity satisfied ??

    I live on a fixed income so I know what you mean. It is good when people know you remembered their birthdays. Many more happy birthdays to you Madmoiselle Garner. I hope Autumn is treating one of her favoite lady poets well!

    It does empty the pocket pretty quick when they all fall on the same month!! Why do families do that?? LOL Well October is just about over so you can start saving for Christmas now LOL. This is a cute little write...good luck in the contest

    I liked the "loot" line but then when I read further "the whacks upon the butt" stanza really cracked me up I personally would love to receive a card just like this one. A wonderful job, full with charm and humor Thank you very much for the entry and best wishes in the contest my friend Cindy

    My dad, two brothers, a sister, two great nephews, all have birthdays in October. I hate that month, lol.

    Oh and what a coicidence, I have a birthday in October too!

    I'm going to be 21 years old again.

    I have a solution for you. Just toss a 10 dollar bill on the floor and tell them all to fight for it. That's what I do...then I film it and sell it on the internet....wow, I've had way too much Moxie!

    Who is the real nut you mention? Poor fellow to be called out and embarrassed like that before an audience...

    October is 'the' birthday month in our family too. In-laws, brother, sister, nephews, son and grandparents to name a few. I'll just add my happy birthday wishes along side yours for all of them. Good luck in the contest.

    I used to have a lot of friends who's birthdays were in Sept. Almost all of ours were, but years pass and I rarely see any of them anymore. I recently had a nephew graduate who said he wouldn't except any less than $50 bucks for a graduation present, would you like to guess how much he got from me...
