Little Sparrow

Missing image

I saw a little sparrow
on waking from my sleep,
entangled in the feeder
it almost made me weep.

I got myself together
out the front door I did leap,
to release his tiny leg
from the grip it seemed to keep.

I held his fragile body
very gently as I tried,

it’s position was quite awkward
but he could not be denied.

He slowly was untangled
but before he flew away,
he looked right into my eyes
giving thanks in his own way.

i think you are talking about the men in my life who are very thankful when the relationship is D O N E!!! kidding. but it did remind me of one flying to freedom after being held 'hostage'. a very great write and worthy of the applaus. hope2makeit

Thank you for your kind comments on this poem Valerie. I am glad you enjoyed reading it. You are right about animals being able to sense if we are trying to help them or harm them.
In all the years I have been feeding the birds, I have never had that happen before.

Aww. This is such a cute little story, and animals seem to really know when you're out to do them good and when we're out to do them harm. I love this write...love the sentiment and feel. Beautiful.
