"Christmas To Me"

Missing image

The snow is falling out of the sky,

untouched , undriven there are no passersby.

As I look out my window and onto the street,

the icy snow shimmers like a glittery sheet.

My mind races back to  the days of my past,

and memories of Christmas come like a blast.

Red lights and red bulbs on a silver tree,

family all around " That's Christmas to me"

The guys watching football on the edge of their seats,

the gals in the kitchen making dinner and treats.

We children decked out in our Christmas array,

in our grandparents' house on Christmas day.

We'd open our presents one by one,

and my- was that ever jolly good fun!

Singing Christmas carols around the tree,

everyone happy " That's Christmas to me"

Then on the table my- what a spread,

there was turkey, ham and plenty of bread.

After dinner was time for sweets,

cookies,pies and chocolate treats!

And when we came to the end of our day,

we said our good-byes and went on our way.

The Christmas spirit still glowing strong,

I wished it could last All Year Long!!

Our grandparents' house so cozy and warm,

was our gathering place every Christmas morn.

And all these memories are deep within me,

to now share with my daughter! That's Christmas to me"

Very nice. I really like the presentation too. Wherever did you get the falling snow background? It's very effective and goes with the write beautifully. Sending traditions down the line gives one a warm glow. Thank you for entering.

    So Preciously Sweet

How warm and cozy this Christmas poem is. Makes me want to go back to Grandma's house. I too have fond memories at Christmas time at grandma's house. This is the perfect Christmas day written into a beautiful festive poem. I felt great joy, love and warmth in your poem. The rhyme, rhythm and flow is flawless. Gee Toni you are a fabulous Poetess. Look at all those trophy's. Thank you for sharing one of your Christmas's with me.
    Much Love

    Grandparents often bring sweet memories!

That is my recall, too. Along with Uncles and Aunts and soldier uncles as well. Tradition is valuable when it brings happiness without regrets and lasts a lifetime. Your poem says this.
The rhyme is so unforced I did not notice its naturalness on read one. Also, I enjoyed your inclusion of the rocking meter once in each line (amphibraic meter xx/xx) or (x/x) .
    Well done. Ron.

Yes it's certainly wonderful to pass on such precious traditions to our children. I know I did the same, because my memories of Christmas as a child are still very fond ones.
Beautiful rhyme and flow to you piece. All the best with this.

    Very nice ...

and you've certainly captured the essence of those times.

By the way, this background is extraordinary. Did you make that yourself?

Beautiful descriptions of white Christmases and wonderful family traditions. My favorite lines: "The Christmas spirit still glowing strong, I wished it could last All Year Long!!"
I don't understand the question mark in the final line, I would have imagined an exclamation!

This is so calming and serene and somewhat reminded me of my own childhood Christmases. They were only different in the sense that I grew up in Europe and Santa Claus had nothing to do with Christmas. We did get one gift from "Christkindle" =Christ-child. We celebrated Santa Claus (St. Nicholas day) on December 6th and that is when he brought gifts , of course not in such abundance as is the norm now.I do not subscribe to any particular religion, even though I was brought up Catholic...I am however quite spiritual. I see so many things taking the meaning out of Christmas......and I guess due to my upbringing Santa is one of them How can our children ever get the serenity of "Silent Night" when their minds are focused on what gifts will be under the tree...how many and who can outdo who. It turns into utter chaos and I want to escape back into what I used to know......family together, Christmas songs and a general good feeling of Peace (sort of like your poem describes) I enjoyed this very much and thank you for sharing

When we with happy memories think of Christmas it almost always lends itself to that which also draws others in. If there are happy memories, if there is a favorable past, one that loves its family, ther is a winsomeness to it and we are all magnetizied to it. I was not ready for Christmas, but in this case you are not to early. RC
