The Witching Hour

Missing image
Above the crumbling Gothic stones,
Between the graves and curdling groans.
Gargoyles peer from cathedral walls,
As the clock strikes twelve, and midnight falls.

Satanic creatures will rise from hell,
With the tolling of the church yard bell.
Hideous faces, rattling chains,
These are the grounds that Count Dracula reigns.

The flapping wings of flying bats,
And the prying eyes of wild black cats.
Haunting screams echo clear,
And the graveyard's riddled with death and fear.

The witching hour has come to call,
Reviving the dead, dark demons and all.
The October wind whistles loud,
Around ghostly shapes dressed in flowing shrouds.

So those of you who'd even dare,
To meet the eyes of Count Dracula's stare.
Heed the warning of his power,
And bypass the graveyard at the witching hour.

    Thanks for your entry

oooohhh, nice and spooky and scary, first real good scare poem that I have read thus far. Good flow, rhyme, and rhythm. Nice clean structure, no frills with the background but a good scary poem is always good with a black background, makes you wonder what's hiding in the darkness. I like the gargoyle picture as well.

    Happy Halloween!

ooohhh Creepy. I loved it. It takes me back to the days before my little one when I wore my Kikwears, fishnet shirts and was a human pincusion, pale face and all. You brought back memories and for that I cannot thank you enough. We would always go to graveyards on halloween and try to "feel" things. Great job. Wonderful flow, best of luck to you in the contest.

Ooohhhh, I'm looking over my shoulder right now. Damn girl, you've got me unsettled.
Now I must unsheath my trusty blade and hold it close,

For I tread the pathways of Transylvania
The countryside is gripped in mania
Gut wrenching screams disturb the night
The Count cares not for mortal plight

He surveys his land with bloody intent
On death and destruction he is hell bent
I walk the line between living and dead
To battle a foe, one of the undead..

    Kind regards
    Previn
