When your days are too long,
And your nights too short;
Keep your eyes open –
And take one step more.
When the storms begin,
And life cuts to your core;
Do not backslide –
Take one step more.
When the burden of the world is heavier,
Than your shoulders bargained for;
Shift the load behind you –
And take one step more.
When your shattered dreams,
No longer seem to soar;
Never give them up –
Take one step more.
When you know why you are here,
And what it is you stand for;
Never give in –
Take one giant step more!

How inspirational!!! It's so hard to do this--take one step more; especially when there doesn't seem to be any reason to, when you believe that no one cares or even knows that you're alive. Thank you for writing this poem!!

Hello, Silver-Girl!
Thank you for stopping in to read my poetry, I really appreciate it. I wrote this after seeing something one of my sons wrote, it's kind of my response to help him keep going. You're right, it's not always easy, most of the time it is absolutely terrible when the wind is blowing in the wrong direction... I know exactly what you mean. All we can do is keep going, because the wind DOES eventually turn around and flow the other way. May the wind always be at your back, young lady.
Thanks again, and you take care...
Peace & Hugs to You Always,
Cyn

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW!!!!!!!
So inspirational!!!!
All of these things are so hard to keep doing as the sad and bad keep getting you down. Though if you can do these things a light will appear to shine the way once more.

Just this weekend
I presented a workshop and could have titled it "One step more". I've worked more than 15 year on its content (and needless to say 'on me too'!!). This poem is not only inspirational, but provides encouragement to those that will take "one step more". Blessings to you for a great message, and from one who knows.
Frans

Excellent advice, the flow is wonderful, as is the message. thank you so much for sharing this amazing write.
Well done.

Good advice for everyone. So many give up at the first sign of defeat, not realizing that some failture makes them stronger and ready for the next obstacle. Experience is education and knowledge gained. Liked the sentiments you have expressed so well in these lines.

Simply amazing. Grade: A
The message that should be told to a child the second he/she is able to understand it. Brilliant!!
More people should have this outlook on life, as there are quite a few who give up and do not realize that the road they are on may lead to a brighter day. I have felt this way at times, but I always pull out of it and it's because of friends and family. They are my heavy soled shoes when my bare feet can no longer tread over the road.
You have a very positive outlook as I said and your work is refreshing.
I think AP has another humongous personality coming up and a seriously gifted poet. Thank you for sharing this with us as it was a pleasure to read! -
This is brilliant! Your poem flows beautifully and sends a message of strength and perserverance. Wonderfully written and very inspirational. Well done dear poet!

To clarify, what I meant was that the road here in the poem, One Step More, is a road I know well. It would be nice if it were to become a winning road!! Thanks - Lee
-
Thank you for your commen!. I always like honest feedback for the road I know very well. Thanks again - Lee

Very good, and so true, things happen, its what we do after that will truly impact us. fantastic. -
Hi Army Girl - Good to hear from one of Charlie's kiddos! Thank you for stopping by to read my poem, and I hope your road isn't as hard as this one. If it turns out to be, just follow it step by step and you'll be fine. Take care Army Girl - Lee

Hi Sandy - Thanks, you and I know that determination is exactly that. No one paved the road for us, we each must make it on our own in this world. That's a truth in life that seems so hard, but is really simple - take one step more. - Lee
-
Wings of an Angel - Glad you enjoyed the poem, and I hope you fly above, rather than tread upon, this long, hard road. Take care - Lee
-
Joy - Thank you once agan for your feedback on my work. You are very observant - this poem is in fact a followup to the previous poem, Welcome Home. Someone actualy noticed! Take care, and I hope you don't have to take this road again - Lee

Mouser - Thank you for your comments! I have been down this road many times, so I know it well - Lee

This is a very well done write loaded with so much meaning. It is easy to stop anf give in, it is not so easy to battle the hard road and continue onward. But the rewards are often well worth the effort. Very nicely doen. Be blessed.

I consider Charlie as my AP Daddy. Noticed you like reading his stuff. Anyways...Awesome write and great talent. Keep up the great work!

excellent
This is fantastic and a good follow up to the last poem that I just reviewed. I must say that this poem has such a familiar ring to it that I almost believe that I heard it in one of my past lives ... and that, my friend, is a most interesting thought! They call it dejavu' and while we can not prove it scientifically we certainly know within ourselves when we have that special connection to "somewhere in time"! Keep on sharing your thoughts as they are most interesting! I hope that you don't mind me commenting on all of your works! joy

This is a lovely write that you had penned here
-
Excellent
Very well done, encouraging, very good advice. I know there are days that I can't seem to take one step more, SO I will keep this in MInd. -
Thank you for your very thoughful remarks. Yes, I do share the poems, actually I run a group for them on writing poetry. I work in a psychiatric hospital, where we see a lot of depression these days. We believe that writing is a good catharsis for change... and the hospital provide spiritual counseling and religious services for those interested. I'm curious about where all you've had to deploy besides Kuwait. It must have been hard on you, and now on those poor activated folks, to keep going and going... I don't envy them at all. Although I did join the AF Reserve for that very reason - to travel - and I have been to a few friendly places, like Kadena and Yokota. But I wouldn''t want to be involved in this war today. It's getting pretty nasty. Well,thanks again, you've been a very supportive friend!! Take care - Le Karma

I can identify with this very well. There are times that you cannot envision making it all the way to the goal. It just looks to far and to hard. Anyone can take just one more step though, and one more, and one more.........
I used to feel like this at the begining of long military deployments. The end looked so far away but I could make it through today.........
I hope you share with with your patients that you help for it is encouraging. God bless you, Mark
