Salt and Sugar

The stretch in front appears as dust,
a dressing of salt and sugar.
Faint, in the shadows, nude shapes sigh
the tales of a shivery spell.

Quilted songs upon silky roads,
still, it prickles your skin, the ice.
Flesh feels like a goose left behind
as numbness hugs your fingertips.

Wrapped in a layer of sequins,
the lakes toughen up to the chill.
Dreary haze fills the twilight scene
and flakes swarm the frosty air.
