Virgin Forest

Missing image
There amidst the virgin forest
To an island in the lake
Sailed the warrior Standing Bear
Rippling Waters his bride to take

He had built their nuptial lodge
In the hope she would be his
He had traded many horses
Now her Father had accepted this

She felt pleased with his attention
Wanted him to be her mate
Yearned for the days and nights of passion
Longed to be in the motherhood state

High above an eagle soaring
Wingtips spread out like a fan
Heard the song of nature calling
Heard her voice softly call her man

In the warmth of their forest dwelling
Joined as one their limbs entwined
Lay the bodies of the lovers glistening
As if to keep their love confined

  • Outstanding!!!

I love this poem, it's a wonderful tribute to Native Americans' history and culture. Rich in metaphor, you've painted a beautifully romantic love story. "The Virgin Forest" draws the reader into its cool and blessed sanctuary, gently enticing us to take a break from the world, relax, and feel (and hear) the closeness and wonder of nature... The colorful, reflective image is breathtaking, as well. Great job!!!

      Thank you kindly!

I love this poem too...I seem to have an affinity to North American Indian culture and it seems to come to the surface periodically and I write something about different aspects on their wayof life..it may be a purely spiritual connection...all I know is it gives me a great deal of pleasure and I am pleased you enjoyed it too!...Dan xx

    BEAUTIFUL!!!

I often feel our native indians had the spiritual way about them, they always were very close to nature and all of its beauty and wisdom. 's

with me being roughly 30% Native American, you already have my kudos for this piece, either way however, i find it a magnificent piece, I'm not sure if it was what you intended, but I thought of how the eagle soaring calling her mate relfected much upon the man and his wife/wife to be, I'm new to this site but I must say, this is one of my favorite poems now, thank you for writing this beautiful work of art, keep up the greatness

Yes that was the intention..to show the link between all creatures and the feeling of love that brings everything together as one...the eagle...although flying high above heard Rippling Waters called to her man Standing Bear and at once understood the language of love being expressed...thank you for your generous remarks on my write...I have a deep respect for native american culture and have written other pieces with that theme....peace and harmony poet...Dan

I love this! It brought to my memory and old George Jones song called, "Running Bear". "Running bear loved little white dove, with a love as big as the sky..."

I love the story you have chosen to tell...and you have done so, very well! I was pulled in by this piece. As I began reading I felt the need to savor every word, all the while in anticipation of the conclusion of the story. You are able to keep the reader interested, without making them feel as though they need to rush through.

It pleases me that you found pleasure in reading this write...and your comment is most welcome!...I am delighted and proud that my write can stir such emotions...Love is such a wonderful feeling and it is not the easiest thing to describe...butwhen you become the person in the image and try to think how they might do...then it becomes easier...Native Americans are and were such a spiritual people and I like to think of them as being truly noble and honest and filled with a sense of pride in who they were and are and they have my respect for the goodness in their hearts...thank you for commenting so strongly and passionately about my write...Dan xxx

I am pleased you sent this my way> I love it. You have great imagery of NATIVE WAYS and the way you have presented it here is beautiful . "In the warmth of their forest dwelling
Joined as one their limbs entwined
Lay the bodies of the lovers glistening
As if to keep their love confined" Absolutely intertwined with nature as natives always are, even in love. Thanks so much for sharing this.

Dan this just goes toward the diversity of your abilty to write and your talent to see such beauty. As always your work a pleasure to read the romantic in your heart dan is written in the lines of this piece. The illusion of the romance the love between the two you paint the picture in words time and race endless across the seas makes no difference. yeah got the dan trademark and touch thank you for the post dan a pleasure to read.
