One Man, My Father

Missing image

One man stands alone

With the world by his side

Harmony plays a part in his crowded life

Tuning machines, building bridges, creating beauty

Brings life to one man

One man rests alone

With love at his feet

Synchrony states worth to this hostile heart

Turning corners, shaving backs, talking defensive

Brings waste to one man

This man is never alone

With our family in his heart

Satisfactory designs speak multitudes of his silent soul

Trusting forgiveness, lasting friendships, suffering fools

Brings love to my father

I see beauty in this picture, because it is my daddy. He's a very special man, in that he would do anything for his family. Like my mammy says, he would work the shirt off his back for us. When I went home last weekend, I spent about 90% of my time with him, because the rest went on holiday. We don't talk much, but that's just cos we don't need to.

    A fully fleshed out tribute

to your Dad. Not overly unrealistic in it's idealism or sentimentality. Yet, it truly and still beams love and admiration. Thoughtful, reflective, comforting, retaining the rough edges that a Father must retain. Thanks for sharing this heartfelt work. It was a pleasure to read.

Are you sure that 'hostile' is the right word to use? It seems quite strong for what you were attempting to show. I would consider revising this. And then show it to your father.

    Yours,
    Kain

Awww, that's so great, Laura, and neat to have that relationship with your dad, because so many don't seem to have that. Family is so important to me. And, I like the poem too. I read it three or four times, just for the sounds.
