She was crashing like the waves today.
Sitting on a pier alone, watching life pass on by.
Looking deep into the water, she wondered what to say.
The dark blue she found there reminded her of the color circling around his eyes.
The pen seemed ready, but she just fell back to lay.
Her heartbeat racing, she couldn't even lie.
She wondered if everything with him was alright, or okay.
She rubbed her temples slowly; let out a long sigh.
This one promise to herself; she couldn't even obey.
Everywhere she wandered, he was flickering.
A ghost to the past, a constant breeze of thought.
Sometimes she'd stop, think, and blink her eyes at what she was seeing.
On that corner, we first were alone, on that pier, our final love was wrought.
'We dined there, with friends, we strolled along just there, before leaving.
While mother was reeling, under the table, it was his hand I always sought.
With him, it was warm embraces. With him, dreaming was believing.
With him, everything was steady. With him, my soul was bought.'
Sigh. Twiddle with the pen. Fingers brush through the hair.
Hover over paper, scrawl, then scratch through.
Finally, it comes to reality. He just isn't there.
'It's supposed to be our anniversary. Of our years not so few.
I promised not to think of you again, to learn not to care.
You are lost at sea, deep beneath the waters, in a vessel not so new.
My heart is lost at sea, deep beneath our memories, it is hard to bear.
My honesty with myself is almost through.
I think I will always glance and see you, it must be Justice's fare.
For me to remember what I've lost, and that I'll always love you.'
She watched the pen marks smear as she cried a little more, for him and for her.
She stood and folded her note, tucking it within her pocket gently, crying just the same.
As she started to continue on her way, she stopped and turned to the still water.
Found their names etched into the metal, kissed her fingers, pressed it to his name.
Tore her note into pieces, tossed it into the sea, watched it quickly flutter.
Said, 'Maybe this will find you, deep beneath the stormy sea. To let you know one day, what my courage could not, I love you just the same."
