My mom, my friend, My buddy, My pal
"Shorty" as I called her was a wonderful ole gal
To my five feet ten she stood 5 feet tall
But, Mama didn't take no stuff
Her words were sweet as cotton candy
But you knew deep down she was old-leather tough
Eleven children she bore but only eight she gave life
In spite of my father she was a most wonderful wife
A mother that you could talk to about anything
She sewed, cooked, cleaned house and boy could she sing
Rarely did she raise her voice it only took one look
Quietly you would sit down, maybe even read a book
Punishments yes, but no violence, no threats
With her love she made you want to always do your best
To disappoint her was like a mortal sin
I love her now as I loved her then
I always wanted to have a big family and be just like my mother
Sharing unconditional Love like she gave me, my sisters and brothers
God has not blessed me with a child this life time
Yet he has filled my heart, my home with the love of so many others
I've told myself God took her home
Because he only wanted the best
He knew we would miss her but he also knew
That we could pass this painful test
I know she still watches over each and every one of us
from the heavens, with golden wing soaring across the skies
"Shorty" I really miss you and it seem like Just yesterday
I had to say good bye

I am 5'9" and my Momma is 5'1" so I can relate, I too call my Momma shorty sometimes when we are playing around, she just giggles ... and like your Momma, she might be short but she is one huge powerhouse when it comes to getting things done and caring about folks. She too was a strong disciplinarian, yet never used violence. We did the right thing out of respect, not fear. We just never wished to disappoint the one person that loved us more then the world. You wrote an awesome tribute to your mother. Good luck in the contest and thank you for entering.
