Perilous, Perilous, Perilous Love!

Love and irreverence went over the falls
all tightly secured in a drum.
Then Love screamed a bullhorn of shrill banshee calls
from the where of irreverence's thumb.

"Don't you know who I am?" bellowed Love with such grace;
"Oh, how can you treat me this way?"
"Look, my love, you are lucky my thumb's in THAT place
and I wasn't that playful today."

"World Leaders and Kings just the cream of the crop
are all that belong where you are!"
"I'm so sorry, my love, tell me why did they stop?
I can feel they did not go in far."

"You have such a mean spirit! irreverent one,
for abusing my person this way."

"What ungratefulness over a small bit of fun,
when I'm going to complete you someday."

"What, YOU complete ME?" Love was more than struck numb.
"Oh how could you tell such a lie?"
"Then you tell me, my love, why we're both in this drum?
Have you never at all wondered why?"

"I assume", began Love, "that a reason exists
but am sure it is not as you say!"
"But, my love!" said irreverence, "...before you throw fits
and limit your thoughts in that way:

"I was behaving fine, I assure you my love
with the placement of my little thumb,
and apologize greatly, but that little shove
was supposed to help balance the drum."

"Which is why I am here in this barrel with you
going over this perilous falls.
Because I am the one unaffected by love
'cause I've got such gianormeous balls."

"Only I balance you and your indulgent ways
as we bob in the unfriendly water
'Cause I don't worship love I cannot be your slave
so, I'm free to do just what I aughtta."

"Then let's do it!" cried love. "Let us balance the drum
and you do what you must do my friend."

They spin fast as irreverence adjusts his left thumb.
Nobody knows when it will end.

Author notes

Love is not enough. Limitless love must be balanced with limitless irreverance.

Thank you for sending me this link. I truly enjoyed this poem, the content and the perceptive is wonderfully amazing. As always your verbiage is descriptive and simple. Your talent to coin your own understandable words such as “gianormeous” is fun. Amera

Oh, Klassy! You are quite perceptive. But, the death of love is symbolic. She doesn't really die, she simply becomes unconditional. In the process, irreverence becomes objectivity.
And all the normal people become very bored with my description.

Lesson? Lane, this is simply a description of our friendship. In case you can't see it for yourself, I play the character of love.

    aye,
    irreverance does,
by the touch of a thumb
    everything it claims
    that it aught-er
    to balance the drum
    pokes scandalous fun-
    sends love o'er the
    falls to its
    slaughter

 geronimo! You are very adept in your humor, but thought provoking, too.
