A Dusty Old Rose

Just a Dusty Old Rose

Hidden from time
on a shelf out of sight
In a dark little corner
not captured by light

A Rose - a Dusty Old Rose

A momento of mine
of a beautiful past
a Memory so vivid
a memory life cast

A Rose - a Dusty Old Rose

I remember the moment
I remember the place
I remember the look
As we stood face to face

A Rose - A Dusty Old Rose

She gave me a flower
from her heart - I suppose
Still treasured and lovely
That Dusty Old Rose

This is lovely, the refrain creates a cadence which echoes the romance, but also reinforces the sadness conveyed by the dust and past tense of the poem. This is a different take than I had envisioned for the contest. That doesn't invalidate it, but the transition is between the authors remembrance of the time and place and expressions versus conveying them to the reader.

The meter is very well handled, and the rhyme creates a lyric movement to give us a beautiful song. The sense of love and sadness both win through.
