What ever happened
to the possibilities?
What ever happened
to our freedom that use to ring?
My Mom raised me till I was eighteen
only to let me be trapped in society
where laws pack us into this massive wall
forced to be another brick that will eventually fall
into this prison we're building with all these rules
trapping children barely living within these schools.
What ever happened
to the love and peace?
What ever happened
to these wonderful dreams?
Teachers told me what to do.
Books told me how to be.
Trying to pick a life to lead
I'll choose A, B, C or D.
I look around and all eye C
Are A lot of D people
who don't know how to think
or who they want to B
leaving a majority
who aren't sure what we need.
What ever happened
to the truth few speak?
What ever happened
to this air we breathe?
Fate is laughing
as we lose our sanity.
I try to be friendly
and they misunderstand me.
People so worried about themselves
in a hurry to be buried in worthless wealth
I'm convinced that they can't see
that this world itself is going to hell
and along with it, humanity
with the power to change, we say "oh well."
Serenity destroyed by rivalry
Wisdom and courage in turn have failed.
What ever happened?
What's happening?

It is difficult to find the truth when being purposely and ruthlessly separated from it for a thousand centuries. Many have been locked away, tortured or killed for speaking the truth or even honestly searching for it. There must be a reason for this, one that - from a twisted point of view - may justify the efforts to keep us away from it. Perhaps a hint to consider: The truth of the past is never obscured unless the aim is to arrive at a future that contains extreme horrors for those from whom the truth is kept. I admire the honest emotion in your poem and the reluctance to settle for the reason that caused the situation inciting the emotion. A final thought to pass on: Any system can be entirely logical in structure and means, but the nature of it is determined by the nature and structure of its foundation. We must all find our own path through space and time, for experience gained as a result of original thought, beats the conditioning blabber in the books you mentioned in your write any time. Take care,

Wondeful write!!!!
Wonderful write. I like the passion and the directness of this piece. You ask some really hard questions. I only hope we all get some answers (yeah right). Great poem. Congrats on the Silver, you deserve it and much more.
Stay true to you...

Awe-struck
What a bleak perspective on modern society and the road we are building. A truly bold and astonishing piece. Immaculate metaphors were placed ever so meticulously. I stand staring at this piece much in the same way I do when I stare at a castle made out of a deck of cards. Each placement was so carefully thought out and built upon with detail in gravity and the heaviness of your words.
Good luck! Great great piece!!! -
Utter Brilliance!!!!!
This is incredible...and so true in so many ways. I can honestly see this in print somewhere...absolutely amazing usage of vision and the implementation of depth... I knew there was a reason why I clung after I read one of your pieces for the first time....
I am without words... for once!! I don't know what to really say.. it's like, you read poem after poem, line after line, and all the while, you know that there's something specific you are looking for...and you can't describe it...
It's here, in your words that I find that...
Good luck in this contest, my AP brother... write on!!! -
Thank you.
That's got to be the best comment I've ever read.
