Westward we sailed from our Scotian port
In the days of Privateering
To Capture American Booty
We were game for volunteering
Once the Captain caught the wind
I heard the Keel creek
With a sudden jerk of motion
Our speed was at its peek
100 tons of solid oak
100 more for crew
Such an awesome sight to behold
The ship they called Sgian Dubh (Skeen- Do)
Now to capture American Merchant ships
She was painted all in black
And cut the water like a knife
With her famous sneak attack
We cruised the New England Coast
In the shallow coves we’d hide
Where big American Warships
Their entry was denied
And through the fog we’d go unseen
until the time was due
To charge upon our enemy
In the ship they call Sgian Dubh
Author notes
The word (Sgian Dubh) is Gaelic and means (Black Knife). Its pronounced (Skeen Do). I have been reading a lot about the American revolution in particular Marine warfare and seafaring tales and Canada's involvment in it. Especially the eastern provinces and the New England coast states. I have made this into a multi part poem because I wanted to keep the viewer interested and waiting for the next installment.
