Best Friends - Nothing More

Are we simply soul mates waiting to be?
We laugh,
We cry.
In silence, we find comfort as we sit together.
We know each other’s thoughts.
Sweeter is the word unspoken.
We hug,
We kiss.
Memories we’ve shared increasing.
Nothing is with held in sadness or joy.
All there is to know has been revealed,
And yet, we love still.
Perfectly our hearts match each other.
Everything seems so simple.
Why must fate make it so difficult?
It is a reality we refuse to examine.
Fear of destroying the foundations.
Foundations that took years to lay.
We shall remain happy where we are.
Best friends are meant for nothing more.
If only I could make him understand,
And harder still- convince myself.

    Great topic, and poem in general. Such a common reality, but always takes so much strength to keep to your decision.
    I loved the last two lines:
    If only I could make him understand,
    And harder still- convince myself.
    They really make the poem real, if you know what I mean.
