Wisping down on nature's prey
To four-legged creatures, big and small
Hiding 'neath marsh grass standing tall
The clean, crisp scent of salty air
Creations gifts, here and there
To watch them in their habitats
No better way to learn the facts
No zoo or sanc could ever reach
What these bits of nature teach
From eagles soaring through the sky
To their nests, where they lie
So many birds colored bright
Flaunt their feathers in the light
Spy them diving for a fish
And see them eat their mighty dish
Gators come in every size
But stories told come from their eyes
Wild boar roam this land
Turtles nestle in the sand
Egrets, hawks, and ibis too
Coastal birds to name a few
Manatees to float the coast
Their gentle ways is what they boast
Some dolphins swim where children play
There's fish, sharks, and manta rays
A driving trail or some to walk
It's where nature buffs go to stalk
Then to the beach with sand so white
To settle with the passing light
Preserved for all it's environment
Heed nature's beauty before it's spent
Author notes
I probably go out to Canaveral Seashore and Merrit Island every other week. It is the one place I absolutely love. From Merrit Island's Wildlife refuge and Blackpoint Wildlife preserve, you can watch almost all of Florida's natural habitat in action. To just outside of Merrit Island with the manatee coming into the St Johns and ICWW. And Canaveral Seachore is excellent beaches, not to mention the views of NASA
I am a nature photographer freak, and have had some of the most amazing pics from this area, including photos with gators where I am less than a foot from an 8 foot giant. Their sanc out there is amazing, with so much information, and if you stop there before you go out into the reserve, it's like a personal guided tour.

I am glad that you have enjoyed this poem, and my views of my Florida. The area is truly beautiful, even with all the development, but thankfully much of it is protected. It often saddens me that there is so much growth. I hope if you're ever in that area, you get to chec out some of the nature that is still left. I wish more poems had been entered into the contest though, I was looking forward to reading about other's views of the state.
Thank you

this lady knows the "real Florida!"
THE BEST!! You have shared your heart in this poem and there’s no doubt in my mind that you have adopted Florida and it’s fast diminishing habitat as “your Florida”. That is the Florida I love and therefore your poem definitely demonstrated to me that love of Cape Canaveral Seashore and those areas around it that have been protected forever! Your photos are fantastic and your poem aptly described what your senses enjoyed! Thank you for sharing this area with me as I can honestly say I’ve never experienced it and will look forward to checking it out in person. Please keep writing about your Florida as it is fast disappearing and your poetry will be historical in nature. Joy
Congratulations on the Gold and 1st place in my contest!

Thank you for the comments, most appreciated. I am not by any means pro, but I think I am sort of semi. I have a handful of published photos, and I was working with a nature mag to do some of their shoots. Maybe one day.
