Anaphylaxis

Missing image
You sliced my heart.

Still in anaphylactic shock,
I recall the sharp swirl's
swift infliction:

this cold clasp of death.

Soft fullness of our love
slashed to a sliver
of silver moon --
wheezing its loss.

I now hang
spindled
against sorrow's cobalt sky
exposed to earthly
shadows:

aril
-- allergic to need --

awaiting
the cycled kiss
of healing.

Author notes

Anaphylaxis
www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000844.htm#Definition

A severe, whole-body allergic reaction. After an initial exposure to a substance like bee sting toxin, the person's immune system becomes sensitized to that allergen. On a subsequent exposure, an allergic reaction occurs. This reaction is sudden, severe, and involves the whole body.

Aril
Crystal Reference Encyclopedia

The outgrowth surrounding a fertilized seed or ovule. It is often fleshy and brightly-coloured, as in the berry-like arils of the yew and spindle tree, but also hairy or spongy, as in the buoyant seeds of water lilies.

What wonderful alliteration in the first stanza.. and all the breathy ess sounds which follow.

you rarely fail to capture that elusive 'soul' inside something
be it a word, a concept or .. the humaness of 'us'

the title fits this so very well, and makes me see much more than I would between the lines..

thank you very much for entering..

The moon wanes and waxes. This one heads towards full I'm sure. Nothing is more beautiful than a thin crescent hanging above the western twilight and knowing each night it will grow fuller and brighter.
    Lovely poem Myra

I didn't know the medical name for the condition but I know several people who suffer from it. If I could cure it with but a kiss I would. Be well, be blessed my friend.

    Sincerely,
