We're People too!

I lie in the dark,
Thinking about my future.
The waves on the Hudson River sooth my body,
Calm my worries.
America is for the best,
I'll get a job and have the best of land.

I had thought that,
I had thought things would be perfect.
Right now I'm cold and hungry,
They hate me, hate us.
Why? What did we do?
My people group together,
Trying to make a life for them and their family,
I see it everyday.
They hate our red hair and freckles,
The accent and our Celtic ways.
This is what I found when I came.
Gosh, if only the stories had been true,
If only the people out there,
The Americans would let us be.
We never did anything to them,
We want what the founding fathers wanted,
A chance to be free,
A chance to be us.
So please, just please,
Let us be,
We're people too.

Author notes

I know there's not much of this type going on, but it did happen. The Irish were hated so much, and there's no reason for it heck there's no reason for racism in general.

Thanks for the comment and yes I do, I am part Irish, Welsh, and English(which if I'm right are all part of the Celtic, but if not the last two I know the Irish are). Thanks for holding this contest. God Bless!

I love the theme! Very nice choice, It has a lot of emotion in it...do you have a celtic backround? My only advice would be to let it flow a little better. Other then that, a job well done! Thank you for entering and good luck!
