I found a place upon a hill that looked out o'er the town
and switched the mumbling engine off and put the kickstand down
and sat a while in thought about those people far below
who went about their timeless way and never thought to go.
For who may tell where freedom lies or what is slavery
and what is gained and what is lost and what shall come to be?
And what care I if love be lost or fame and fortune hide
if Beelzebub and I alone the endless roads may ride.
So butter up a slice of toast and brew a pot of tea
and say hullo to grandpa clock and bid it chime for me
and think of all the lovely roads that I shall ride, and when
I turn the handlebars at last and head for home again.
Author notes
Lawrence rode a Brough Superior SS-100
which he called Beelzebub.

Thank you for sharing this poem.

Awesome write!! I feel as though there should be a couple more syllables in the very last line to keep it in time with the rest of the poem. You're allowed to change it (if you want, of course) until I judge (which should be within the next week). Still, great write. Thanks for sharing it and thanks for entering my contest. Best wishes. Take care.

Looong sigh.....
You couldn't have been more right, I love this poem more than I can express in my simple words. You have earned a place as a favorite of mine. Let's stay close so we don't forget to read eachothers work. Beautifully done, BRAVO!
Warmly, Chrissy

I like the gentleness and slowness of time in this. Your small descriptive touches really add a human feel. Beelzebub wouldn't be welcome ridin' with me; I'd probably run him over! lol But this is a great poem.
Peace Georgia
