On a bright sunny fall day I went to Schoodic Point to catch some suhf. Was a stohm off the coast makin’ fowah a goowad display. Theyah was a numbah of locals linin’ the rocks watchin’. Then I noticed a woman from away walkin’ towahds the watah. She had on a fitted white shuht, a jean skuht, and cowboy boots. She walked right past the line o’ locals down theyah and stahted getting’ pretty close to the watah. I knew what was a comin’! So, I put on my rain jacket and got an extra sweatshuht out the trunk and put it undah my raincoat.

‘Bout the time I got theyah, she was huggin huhself to the cold breeze off the ocean. All the locals had windbreakers or sweatshuhts on. I thought about givin huh the sweatshuht then, but judgin’ by the way people was starin’ at the stretchin material she was a wearin’ I thought it might be rude. I walked down past the line o’ locals and got to about ten feet behind huh. Saw it commin fowah ‘bout ten seconds, so I had time to run up and put huh in a beyah hug whilst we got covered in spray, and the wave washed up and into huh boots.

When everythin’ subsided, she tuhnd ‘round to look, not at me, but at that line o’ locals standin about ten feet back from wheyah the spray landed. They was all looking at huh, too. She looked like she was desperately tryin’ to win a wet T-shuht contest. Then she looked at me. She knew that I coulda’ prevended huh from getting’ all wet. She said, “Thank you”, without smilin’. I pulled the sweatshuht out from undah the raincoat and gave it to huh. She didn’t take it, but proceeded to take off huh shuht and bra, wring them out, then take the sweatshuht, nevuh breakin’ eye contact with me the whole time. Then she lifted huh ahms up in the ayuh and stood lookin’ at me. I wonduhd if she was just givin’ me a gowad look, but she cleahd huh throat when I looked down and looked at the sweatshuht. I realized she was a waitin’ fowah me to put it on fowah huh. I got it on huh in two seconds flat. As I pulled it down, she leaned fowahd a little and kissed me. I pulled back.

She said, “Don’t you want to kiss me?”

I said, “Yess Ma’am. But if we stay heyah ‘n’ do it, you’ll be soakin’ wet again in ‘bout ten seconds.”

She got the drift of my meanin’ and grabbed hold of me, runnin’ just as fast as them little cowboy boots would run. She stopped at the line of locals, but I pulled huh anothuh fifteen feet beyond. When we tuhnd ‘round to see the watah again, most of the folks standin’ theyah was watchin’ us. She covahd huh mouth and stahted gigglin’ when them what was tuhnd ‘round got blasted with spray.

“You knew that would happen!” She exclaimed to me.

“No. Just knew it was a good likelihood. Can’t know nothin’ like thayat fo’ showah.”
“How did you know when the big surf was coming? The waves didn’t look big until the final few seconds before they broke?”

“Well… yah open yah mind up and jus’ listen, soonah owah latuh yet leahn to feel what’s comin’.” She stepped back and looked me up and down, so I looked huh up and down, too. ‘Twas like a mutual admiration thing. “Cept I think I was doin just a bit mowah admrin’ than she was.

Mowah Mowah! Gotta admit...I had to read this twice (no fault of yours...I'm still dazed and confused from an all-nighter) and of course, I found myself smiling by the end. I think I could capture that Maine accent if I put a bunch of marbles in my mouth... Love what you do do do...Lane

PerV, you my friend are indeed quite out of every box, but of
course you are quite aware of it, so my point is _________.
But, I felt the need to say all that I have just said because
some poems just touch me in that way....this one did. Loved it.
    Accent and all. You go.
