Parallel lives
A Saturday date missed
so very long ago,
still recalled with regret,
a precious tryst to forgo.
The paths to destiny, as
treacherous options beguile,
nudging one to make mistakes,
errors realized after awhile.
Luck runs out in a perfect life,
everything wished for turns out a dud,
goals remain beyond one’s reach,
emptiness of beauty, oh so sad.
Life’s a blur in a hurried day
and nights extension of sunlight hours
as one exists wondering what for
when magic of love and beauty sours.
With music gone in rivers of tears,
in careful steps one strides the flow,
the currents take us, we know not where,
straight to limbo in life’s afterglow.
Each proceed to their chosen paths,
to foreign lands in search of luck,
culture prevails and saddens the heart,
for happiness is not founded on a fast buck.
If we could only turn back the clock,
cast away precautions and live for love
would we now relish simple joys of life,
never having to prove what we’re made of.
Distance divides and time endow gaps,
serving as barriers linking present from past,
as hours tick by turning blood to dust
living a life I can no longer recast.

as one exists wondering what for
when magic of love and beauty sours--
i really have to reward you with applause for saying so much in very few words.

an introspective piece. very sad and wistful write, surely though you know that this too shall pass. My mama use to say that time waits for no man. You will find exactly what you are looking for. You have too much umph to let yourself go to waste. Very nicely written piece

We all have regrets, some more than enough, to live with. If we would have done this, then today things would have been better. We cannot change the past, but can make the present the best it can be, and the future brighter with a better outlook. This poem is so reflective of those choices made that should never have been. Heartfelt, sad and very tragic.

Heartbreaking. Such a deep feeling of hopeleness is portrayed by this poem.
The line that particularily struck me was "as one exists wondering what for" That question can present such a problem to us during those depressed hours of life. I hope that we all can find an answer to it.
"If we could only turn back the clock,
cast away precautions and live for love
would we now relish simple joys of life,
never having to prove what we’re made of."
This is my favorite part, it excentuates the power of love and the possibility of finding happiness through living for love and not for our own well being.
Another excellent write =)

This is a moment in time, one lost but not forgotten. When looked upon with regret we feel loss. If looked upon with no regret we find an inner peace for there is something about that moment that made us who we are. Remember the past and embrace the present and dream of the future. Thank you for sharing with us. Dawn

the next to last stanza was my favorite. just to imagine living a life where i didn't have to prove what i was made of seems so far out of reach. i really like the way you worded this stanza. of course i enjoyed the rest of your poem but that stanza really grabbed me

i like it. this is truly a great poem. i am wondering if you wanted to put a ryhme scheme in though. there is a faint hint of one in parts but faint enough to peak ones intrest but too faint to wet ones appetite. dont know if that makes sence to you but i hope it helps you out.
Good Write and God Bless

what makes the write beautiful to me is i know exactly what the story is all about... it's so beautiful yet it's sad...especially in this one...not all beautiful things entails happiness...sometimes beautiful things, moments entails sadness too
but what's good about life is that we have a choice to change things in the way we want it to be not without thinking about "what should be"
mmm let me think about this for myself
this is truly inspiring
and i feel your longingness in here
so deep
musta?

it's sad, heartbreaking...sometimes we wish we could do something different, maybe even turn back time...missed chance, irony of our lives.
