He called you his once,
that steadfast guardian of light amaranthine.
Golden gated eyes opened yours,
Even his name he offered you.
And of all sons
(save one)
He held you
closest to his heart.
Princes from princedoms flee
to find their ways in lands
unstained and skies unascertained –
you fled the wrong way.
And they wrote your name
on the wall of temptation beneath hers…
Blackened, bruised you returned,
ashamed
to find only his algid glance
and apathetic tone;
Now the doorstep is your home.
No stigmata ever borne
was there that did not stain
and burn as yours.
Black and purest white.
As their fingertips caressed you,
warm as you had never known,
did you not guess?
Tainted and unforgiven,
eyes glazed by the misery of your temerity
Ageless you remain,
youth-rouged cheeks dulled by and eternity
of regret.
And they wrote your name
on the wall of temptation beneath hers.
Pierrot, Pierrot…
When did you know
that they had all betrayed you?
