Singing Souls

Sunflowers bow their heads on Saturdays
The face of the sun wears on them
The ways of the world are in their soil
The rain has all but washed them away

If sunflowers bend,
what does man do?
If man opens his mind too far,
does his brain fall out?

Cotton blooms in wonderful white
The reapers pluck their souls
Their neighbors turn their heads and wait
The empty stalks lie still

If cotton dies,
what do you do?
If you open your mind too far,
does your brain fall out?

Weeping willows cry to nymphs
The wind pokes fun at their faces
The whispering water sings life songs
The mud is loose around their feet

If willows weep,
what do I do?
If I open my mind to far,
will my brain fall out?
