This Imaginary War

Thorns on the roses prickle my skin,
Making it bleed, but i can't feel a thing.
Pushing branches aside,
A twig snaps at my feet,
Trying to find a place to retreat.

Where worries and troubles are no longer found,
The screaming inside me stops making a sound.
I curl up in a corner,
My eyes on the lawn;
This is the place where wishes are born.

And I smile as I stare at the robin i see,
Pausing for breath on the branch of a tree.
Arching his back,
Head in the air;
He's on his own, but he doesn't care.

I close my eyes, still out here you're not gone,
I can't bear to love you, I'm biting my tongue.
Cheeks crusted hard,
As I open my eyes;
From frozen tears, dried as I remember the lies.

Still trying to escape, as I work my way back,
I'll pretend its not there, my invisible pact.
But the sun shining though me,
Won't let me ignore,
That my head is still fighting this imaginary war.
